i'd argue that panama had more chances in the 2nd half then we did. we finally scored only on a counter-counter attack.

Adu or Jones, IMO. Officially, Dempsey was FSC's MOTM

Edit to not triple post and be serious: MB was absurdly good, especially in the first half. Still rocking my MB90 man crush for life.

Trying to tweet in Spanish during the game. This might end in disaster. I know only buzz words/simple verbs. Having to google translate some of the more complex stuff.

i was wrong about this, it was just a counter-attack. panama totally controlled the game in the 5 minutes leading up to our goal.

random not-really-new thought: if Clint Dempsey wasn't an American, how long ago would a bigger club have picked him up?

He would have been in Europe playing for a longer period of time so I'm sure a larger club would have taken a chance on him. I think he's a step below playing for some of the big clubs in Europe, could see him continuing to do well at an Everton or Spurs type club.

thedeezy -- would you rather have jee sung park (i'm sure i screwed his name up) or Clint Dempsey? if i'm Sir Alex, i take dempsey without thinking

They're completely different players. JSP is a great attacking MF that relies on pace. Much more a Donovan than a Dempsey. I don't think ManU would make that swap without having someone to replace the Korean.

JSP has sick work rate and contributes loads on defense too.

fwiw, I don't think the USMNT would swap Dempsey for Park and I don't think ManU would swap Park for Deuce.

they fill completely different roles and I would take park over deuce for how united play. Park's work rate is sick and his defense is extremely good as well. He is a pretty good passer (CL final non-withstanding) and he is able to use his pace to open up goal scoring opportunities.

Deuce doesn't bring the work rate that park does and he doesn't bring the defense that park does either. More to the point, with the players that united have, deuce's skill set is pretty irrelevant

Agreed with all of that except Deuce's work rate. He is sneaky with how much he runs. Didn't he log more work in the Confed Cup than any other player?

park's work rate makes lots of players look like overweight fat guys. Its not a knock on deuce, but park is known for his work rate

Agree with all of this. JSP is a very versatile work horse.

His attacking abilities are habitually underrated and he's a great defender that SAF has counted on in a lot of games.

I honestly don't know how he creates as much as space as he does. He's just not that fast and frankly not that strong either for his size... But it's like he's not even on the pitch one minute and then out of nowhere he's in the penalty box all by himself. It's like he's got jedi mind powers to make defenders forget that he's playing.

i'm glad you like what i post in BFI. thanks. feel free to post what you disagree with and we can talk.

as for JSP and Clint, I shouldn't have phrased it the way I did. Even so, my point is that on quality of player, JSP is not clearly greater than Dempsey. it doesn't sound like people here strongly disagree with that. Deuce's work rate is very underrated, and i actually think their roles are less dissimilar than it seems on the surface
