He doesn't have to be a citizen to get a cap. Permanent residency is enough.

No, you have to have citizenship. One example is Andy Najar who has permanent residency, but is not a US citizen yet. If permanent residency was enough, Najar would almost definitely be playing for the US by now. And I'm pretty sure Danny Mwanga is in a similar situation.

Well....maybe its different for the US?

Pretty sure FIFA allows you to play for a country if you have been a resident for a certain amount of time and you haven't been capped previously. I don't think citizenship is what is holding up najar or mwanga, but maybe I am wrong.

I thought we were waiting for them to decide which country they wanted to play for.

Here is a recent article on Najar, Mwanga, and Tchani. It talks about citizenship and the possibility of them playing for the US.

This is from last year, but it sounds like Mwanga wants to play for us.

"Yes, (playing for the U.S.) is something I’ve thought about," Mwanga admitted. "My family lives here. It would be an honor to represent the United States. Playing for the U.S. in a World Cup would be a wonderful opportunity."

somehow it seems players who are residents of Canada have no problems leaving us for other countries w/o having to go through any pain or waiting game

WadeOn1420.com is my blog, WKSR.com is my station's site. I'll also be doing live updates on Twitter (same name as my blog).

I'm still 50/50 on if I want to use the credential or not. A lot of my hooligan friends are wanting me to come and sit with them.

Decisions, decisions.

I'm excited for the game tonight. It'll be interesting to see if Bob uses all the regulars again. I expect him to. The Gold Cup's very important and I think he's going to treat it that way.

I think I've placed myself solidly in the Agudelo-fanboy camp, so I'd like to see him get a start. I was down with the 4-2-3-1 if we had Holden, but without him I don't like it anymore. Edu, MB, and Jones are repetitive and don't have a good enough understanding. I'm fine with:

-------Jozy------Agudelo------
Landy-------------------Clint---
--------MB-----Edu------------

As the starting front 6. In fact, I'd be fine with that starting front 6 in the Gold Cup. I could see the argument for starting Jones over Edu or X over Clint with an eye toward their crowded European fixture list (although Jones is playing a lot too, ldo).

I think it's valuable to have them all playing together though. Paraguay seems like a pretty close approximation for Mexico. They're not exact duplicates obviously, but a South American side of roughly the same strength that keeps the ball well (even if they're more defensive than Mexico), is one of the best simulations we could have.

The back will be interesting.

It's painfully obvious that Gooch needs minutes. He needs to start and play 90.

Consider me one strong vote for Ream starting. It'd be nice to see some youth so early in the cycle and, let's face it, we know exactly what we're going to get from Demerit (good and bad).

The wide backs are interesting. Knowing Bradley, he may well be planning on starting Boca and Dolo (come summer time,). I wouldn't be too too upset with this summer's GC being Boca's last hurrah, but he looked off the pace to me at times for sure against Argentina. As always though, there don't look to be better options (unless Chandler can play there?).

I liked the look of Chandler at RB, and would like to see him start. Woudln't hate Lichaj either, as I'm a fan of his, but I heard he had a bad camp. That being said, my ideal lineup is probably:

------Jozy-----Agudelo------
Landy-----------------Clint--
--------MB----Edu----------
Boca (sigh)-OW-Ream-Chandler/Lichaj
-----------Hero--------------

Let's do it Bob!

Edit: In fairness to Boca, he did fantastically well on the header that created the goal. He's consistently created goals on sets for us throughout his career and that's something that shouldn't be underestimated considering the frequency with which we rely on goals from sets against quality opposition.

For anyone interested, the U-20's begin qualifying for the U-20 World Cup tonight. It's going to be on espn3.com at 8pm ET, same time as the men's game against Paraguay.

I'm going to the game in Nashville tonight, very excited its my first US game with anything close to resembling the top squad. Also hoping that Agudelo gets the start, it'll be interesting to see how BB plays it though, it should be a close match but definitely winnable and a win against a decent side like Paraguay would go a long way for confidence right now.

I dunno, but I <3 Jozy ldo.

Well done, Bob. It's the exact front 6 I asked for, as well as Chandler and Ream both starting. A+.

It's a shame Gooch picked up a knock but what can you do.

If I'm going to nitpick at all, I'd like to see Howard start, not for him necessarily, but for the communication between him and the youngsters in the backline.

All in all though, very pleased with the lineup. Now we just need to have a good performance.
