Qatar would be the worst attended WC ever AINEC, probably the worst crowds as well. We'd be craving for some bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz because of how boring it would be.

Id have it back in Germany in a flash, I went to Munich for the semi between Portugal and France. The atmosphere was excellent in the build up and after the game and from the people we talked to it was like that all tournament.

FIFA just need to hold it in what I would call "normal" places. Qatar is not normal.

Normal according to your definition. There's around 400 million Arabs in the world, it's not as if they're some obscure minority. Football is by far the most popular sport in that part of the world and they've never hosted it. It's a global sport, played and enjoyed on every continent and deserves to be spread around the world as long as there are hosts who can handle the logistics of holding a tournament of this magnitude. I wouldn't want the tournament in Yemen or Sudan, but Qatar has the security and resources to handle the event.

It wouldn't be the ideal place for alcohol-drinking tourists, but I wouldn't be surprised if drinking laws were changed if Qatar were named hosts. The country is image-conscious and wants to attract tourists and the support of foreign nationals to bolster the non-resource areas of its economy.

While I'm hoping the US wins, objectively speaking, Qatar and the Arab world in general deserve to host the World Cup.

good post, and I agree with the last sentence. However deserve doesn't always mean they should.

How many of these Arabs venture outside of their countries to go watch a World Cup elsewhere.

I dont know for sure but I would say very little, FIFA need to think about the fans when picking the host of a World Cup. South Africa was a total disaster, the price of just getting there was beyond a joke, im guessing Qatar isnt cheap either, apparently the hotel rates are extremely high.

Indoor stadiums? Are you serious? That should be a no no from the get go.

Edit - 12 years away though, I could be dead so hold it there if they want.

Don't hate on indoor stadiums. Michigan State setup the silverdome real nice. Best thing they ever did imo.

True, but my objective criteria would be to hold the World Cup in regions of the world capable of hosting that haven't yet had the opportunity. That leaves Russia and Qatar as obvious choices this time around. Australia also has never hosted, but there are a lot more Arabs than Aussies and football's not the most popular sport there.

England and the US no doubt have impressive bids, but England has hosted before, Eastern Europe never has, and the US just held the tournament 16 years ago.

I just couldn't see myself going to a game regularly which is being held indoors. Being out in the elements is part of the whole experience. I realize Qatar would have to have indoor stadiums due to the heat factor, I mean I really really hope they dont get it.

Obviously im going to be selfish in which country I want to host because it affects whether I can go or not but in Qatar's case I think it would be a bad move all around.

I think you need to broaden your objectives. Russia and Qatar would be a pretty long way down my list of choices if I were a travelling In-ger-Lund fan, which thankfully I am not.

Disagree with your statement about South Africa. Had the global economy not been in the middle of one of the worst financial crises of all time when tickets were on sale, attendance wouldn't have been so poor. Security was a non-issue and feedback from those who went was mostly positive.

Your solution seems to be to hold the tournament in western Europe every time. Great deal for those of us who live there, very close-minded and unfair to the other 95% of the world.

I don't see why objectively you wouldn't want to give football-mad regions of the planet the chance to host the sport's crowning event for the first time. Provided they have the resources, logistics and security to handle it.

OK maybe it wasn't a total disaster but when they got announced as the hosts most people were pretty skeptical about whether it would be a good choice or not. Turned out to be one of the worst in my lifetime (vuvzelas, pitches cutting up, cost). Also the quality of football didnt help but thats a whole other story.

I have no problem with Brazil in 2014 at all and if ROI make it I will definitely travel without hesitation. USA/OZ would be a decent choice for 2022, so saying I think it should be held in Europe every year is wrong.

Because if you can't get a reasonable number of travelling fans there you will get a sterile atmosphere.

USA clearly makes the most sense if FIFA is FIFA and is greedy. Nowhere else can they make nearly as much money as in the USofA.

One time greedy FIFA GO!
