Yes. FIFA/CONCACAF do not assign stadia or sites, UNLESS a team's normal home stadium does not meet international standards, and I don't think this is the case with any team in the hex. Heck, they let Antigua play their games in their "national stadium," which is a cricket ground.

That was the most embarassing thing I'd seen. If that pitch met the "minimum requirements" than FIFA needs to take a serious look at their minimum requirements. The touchline was like 3 yards away from the edges of the 18

Yep, read that earlier. Been enjoying Ives' USMNT articles lately.

Also if we do in fact get to host and play in Copa America in 2016, count me in! Would be awesome.

I'm hoping that chicago is a host city this time. Still completely miffed that we weren't listed and ****ing indy was for the WC bid

I'd be very interested to see what barry can do at the international level. I kinda feel that he's a very good MLS defender, but I don't really think he has that next gear

Not so fast, US Soccer and CONCACAF announced they aren't on board yet.

Jurgi just basically said that jozy's attitude isn't right and his commitment isn't fully there. He's on goals on Sunday and was asked about jozy. If that's the case, very understandable as to why jozy didn't play recently

What is that, the fourth coach to hate on Jozy's attitude? Hard to say it's just a relationship problem now.

Granted, jurgi said it much much more diplomatically than my paraphrasing. But, it was pretty understandable to read between the lines

I feel pretty confident Seattle would be a venue for Copa America, would be pretty sick to see one of the good S. American teams come play there.

Except the copa america people probably want it in a more hispanic-y area.

Yeah??? So basically just the SW, eh?

Nah, NYC, chicago, florida, DC are all good candidates. Probably use something similar to the gold cup.

Well, Chicago wasn't listed as a host city for the WC while Lucas Oil stadium was to be used. So, there's no garuntee.

Seattle would have a good shot at hosting matches because qwest field is a great stadium.

Never been there, but it's turf right? I figure they'll focus on grass fields and/or areas with high hispanic concentrations.

Dunno Kdawg, Seattle's MLS crowd only averaged ~42k a game this year, probably not hispanicy enough to host a Copa America game. Need to put the games where the brown skinned folks are, gringos don't want to watch them play.

Copa America plus 6 CONCACAF sides is several rungs above the Gold Cup. You could put Argentina, Brazil, the US, and Mexico in four different regions and they would probably sell out all the games.

The tournament would be an utter success here, I am completely confident in that.

WRT hispanic populations, I'm not worried about them selling out. I'm assuming the CA people will want games near their populations.

Yeah I would guess they are going to carefully pick the other 4 CONCACAF countries for this. Just gonna guess lolcanada is one. Probably Panama, Jamaica(?), Costa Rica, Honduras/Guatemala?

dunno.

The press release said based on gold cup results.

Has Seattle ever held a WCQ game? Checked back through 2006 and no dice. That seems dumb. I *think* it's because of the turf, which is a huge PITA to substitute grass for. They put grass in the Silverdome for the 1994 world cup and while I was 8, I remember it being an issue.

Seattle had two venues listed in the 2022 WC bid, Century Link and the new Husky Stadium. They have hosted an asston of friendlies at Century Link with Man U, Chelsea, Barca, Celtic, etc. They always put grass down and it hasn't been a problem. This is an outdoor stadium after all.

I don't think its a hurdle at all and I doubt the turf is an issue for the the organizers either since they will obviously look to use Reliant Stadium (indoor turf) and New Meadowlands (outdoor turf).

ikes the silverdome in 94 was almost 20 years ago, things have changed. Bringing grass into stadiums with turf is pretty common. All the examples TSC has given plus they did it inside a dome at Ford Field when USA and Canada played.

Copa America in the US expanded to 16 teams is a fantastic idea. IMO they should do the 16 team tournament every time, with the Gold Cup only being played once every four years.

I wish that instead of taking the four best participants from the 2015 Gold Cup, they took the teams that qualified from the hex. Sides like Honduras, Costa Rica and Panama are capable of being competitive against South American sides. I wouldn't want to see someone like Guadeloupe go on a fortunate run to the semis at the Gold Cup and then get slaughtered by Brazil or Argentina.
