he gets ooodles more space in the eredivisie than he does at the international level. It's good that he's doing well there, but scoring a decent amount of goals in holland doesn't necessarily mean big things

hopefully it's good enough for him to get another run somewhere big

Maybe somewhere big where he'll learn how to stay on his feet in the face of a stiff breeze?

Back on MB, there is no denying the player has talent. I don't know how he is doing for Roma right now but he proved himself on the big stage enough to warrant respect.

the only concern with his father is not that he is where he is now because of his position in the soccer community in the US, but how much BETTER Bradley is because of his fathers position than what he would have been if he was in the same position as everyone else. I played for Sockers FC when he was there, I was playing U11 he was U14 or 15 at the time, and I remember him not having been the best player. He did scream a lot at his teammates and we joked he could do whatever he wanted bc his dad was coaching the fire. But he took advantage of his position, grew as a player through playing with the best, and became the best.

If only the players with more natural talent hadn't fallen through the cracks ie financial restraints, politics, not having the credentials for college ect, there would certainly be a much larger pool of caliber players in the country. I play D1 now and many players who were far better than me are no longer playing since they weren't fortunate enough to have the grades or finances to afford college.

Just something to think about in terms of how the US is still far behind other countries in player development.

I don't mean to sound like a dick, but yeah, we'd be better off if every player had a top tier coach as a father.

Are you a walkon? Are there not full rides for soccer players?

you have to be an amazing talent to get a full ride for soccer. Lots of partial scholarships are handed out, but because it's not considered a revenue sport like basketball or football they don't get to hand out 20 full scholarships. It may be different now, but iirc it was something like 9.9 scholarships the last time I checked.

He also doesn't have 5 D-Mids behind him putting him on an island up top in the Eredivisie.

At this point, imo, the rest of the US attack is more responsible for Jozy's lack of scoring than he is. It's not like you see him wasting chance after chance. He's barely getting chances the way we have to play.

Title IX dictates that all universities must give out the same amount of athletic scholarships to men as they do women. Since football gets 85 scholarships, other sports get cut short. Soccer gets 9.9 scholarships per team. You have to be a stud to get a full ride. Most players get halves or 3/4 at most.

yeah unfortunately thats how it is. Only three full scholarships have been used this season, all international players, and the rest of us have partial scholorships ranging from paying for a few classes at 2000 a pop to 3/4 of the 50,000 our crazy school costs a year, increasing and decreasing at the coaches discretion after every season

I think part of the thing you might be missing is that though the screaming at players thing probably was put up with more because of his dad, it also is a sideeffect of the biggest reason he's turned into a top player for his - his WIM. Sure, he's not the most naturally talented, but he's busted his ass to get were he is, and if Jozy had half his work ethic...

yeah thats for damn sure. He did work his ass off, remember how he played back in the world cup! unbelievable, i was shocked he was so composed and dominant on the biggest stage in the game. Sadly, another player from the sockers, light years ahead of MB back in the day who was a few years younger than MB was Kirk Urso, who sadly passed away recently during his first years in the MLS. I definitely could have seen him having some sort of impact on the national team some day and seeing him pass was the saddest thing, especially knowing his family and how hard it was for them.

I remember Kirk Ursos national championship game winning goal when he was 15 or 16 with the sockers.

yes, a Capitol One Cup match against Carlisle is totally indicative of how much playing time he'll get

you gotta be insane if you think dempsey doesn't start a large number of games for us. he will rotate with sigurdsson and will likely see some games on the RW in the place of lennon. even if we don't get injuries i think he gets about 50% starts.

it's not the point being made. IBU is taking another dig at bradley. Deuce being in a squad rotation (and the no1 sub off teh bench) was the argument I was making when IBU was going on about how crap MB is because of how "bad" MB was when he (MB) was 16 years old
