a) I hope Davies gets a fat contract, it would be a nice vindication/feelgood story after his car accident, and I don't think that Klinsmann has even called him up nor likely will.

b) It was just one single play, but maaaaaan did Neymar make Parkhurst look foolish in the Brazil game. It just underscores how weak the US is defensively in the back four, and I don't see much of a future for him in the USMNT. Let's give Whitbread the next opportunity.

c) love ThaSaltCrackas icon. Snowy FTW.

Neymar makes lots of people look weak defensively. I wouldn't make that a main reason for why someone shouldn't be in the set up

Unfortunately the dude is constantly injured. When he was healthy he was pretty good for Norwich. It would be nice if he could stay healthy, we need all the decent center backs we can get.

TSC was right re: Gomez being good and Gooch being terrible, unfortunately. CB is such a worrying position now. I'm actually surprised Jurgen hasn't thought about Edu back there.

I don't much care about the lineup in the Canada match, because I don't know whether he's going to use it as a tuneup with our qualification lineup or a last chance to let some fringe guys impress. Either would be fine with me.

Definitely want him to give Jozy a shot to get fitness back.

For the home qualifier at least, I want to see Torres dropped back into the 3 man band in midfield at the expense of Edu, and then play Dempsey and Donovan together behind Jozy. Unless Jozy is only going to be available for one qualifier (there's only three days rest with a plane trip in between), in which case I'd definitely rather it be the one in Guatemala.

So for Antigua-

-------------Jozy------------
---Donovan-----Dempsey-
--Torres---Jones----Bradley-
Johnson-Boca--****--Dolo

I don't have a strong opinion on the other CB atm. Nothing jumping out at me unfortunately.

If Jozy won't be fit enough to start back to back, then I'd probably just slightly prefer Gomez to Boyd because of the nature of the game, but I'm not much bothered either way, and I can see the argument for Boyd to start and Gomez off the bench if we haven't killed the game off in the 65-70th minute.

What about Premiership Championship level CB Tim Ream?

Not called in. Had he been, I would start him against Antigua but not even put him in the squad against Guatemala.

Granted Boca is older than him, but he's steady and has stayed injury free for the most part. Well that and he's Captain America.

Demerit is the complete opposite of what this team is trying to become. He's so unbelievably bad with the ball at his feet.

He might be better than Gooch with the ball!

Ream hasn't been healthy either imo. I think his cycle, if it comes, isn't until Russia tbh. At that point he'll be at his peak and we'll know for sure. Somebody just straight up needs to step up. There are plenty of guys that are good enough to be the 4th or 5th CB on a WC QF team but nobody is stepping up. Or they all get injured. You've got Ream, Gonzo, Boss etc. all young and capable if they keep developing. It's just that they all have mitigating circumstances be it contract, injuries, learning curve.

We're watching the team improve at all areas but CB imo. We seriously have the potential at fullback now, which was a shocking proposition even just one year ago. If we can develop 1 starting level CB in the next year we're going to be in good shape for the cycle. It's getting Iowa Running Back ridiculous back there, but I'm holding out.

CB right now could def be Omar if he hadn't gotten his knee torn up. Just look at how bad Galaxy defense is now without him to see what he brought to the table.

True. I'd happily slot in Gonzalez for 2014. My guess is he'll be back training later this summer and get a few games in before the end of the 2012 MLS campaign.
