Caps are basically appearance for a international team. Lock would mean that he'd have to play for that national team only. FIFA loosened the rules on that recently.

With the new rule I don't think friendlies cap tie you(Could be wrong someone confirm?) However, with Lletget if he breaks into West Ham's lineup this year which by most accounts he almost did last year, there is a chance he is good enough for the Gold Cup. Maybe Hoopie has more information on his progress.

Yes please on Lletget. Let's cap him right away, because Maradona's a nut who'll cap anyone.

I'm way more concerned about locking in young talent in the back. All our backs are old and not very good anyway, and there aren't many (any? Chad Marshall maybe) young promising ones in the National Team pool.

A new rule change that is likely to have global implications as soon as next year's World Cup has been passed by the FIFA Congress in the Bahamas, FIFA has confirmed to YA.

The rule, proposed by the Algerian Football Federation and accepted by a majority vote of the Congress, eliminates the age limit at which a player can opt to request a change of federations after having participated in the youth teams of one country.

Players who have not played an 'A' international match for their country, meaning a match in a competitive international tournament such as the Gold Cup, World Cup, or World Cup qualifying - and excluding friendlies - would apparently now be eligible to switch to any federation of a country for which they held citizenship at the time they played for a youth team of the original country.

Oh okay, thanks. So Rossi is locked into Italy for life now?

What other team could Lletget play for, England? That'd be pretty upsetting. Cap that mother****er asap.

I'm also excited to see Mikkel Diskerud's progress these next couple of years and can be a real candidate for 2014 and maybe sooner.

RE: Subotic

Apparently he was USA #1 FO LYFE until he mysteriously got cut from one of the youth teams because the coach didn't like him.

You can play for another country if you become an amateur again and you don't play for a certain amount of time. IIRC Guadaloupe had a former French NT player playing for them not too long ago.

I'm thinking we will not want to go this route.

BB should go to these guys homes and say "Youre getting capped in the US, one way or the other."

Not the USA way, need to handicap odds against us. Before you know it you might ask for a striker to score goals. You're crazy!

First!

Edit: Be kind of cool if we could somehow get a prospect watch that updates in OP. Thoughts?

Can someone outline what the teams schedule going forward is? Is there anything besides the Gold Cup and friendlys? Are friendlys common 3-4 years outside of a WC? What do we have to do to qualify for the 2013 Confed Cup?

Win the Gold Cup for the Confederations Cup.

Olympics for our youth players but mainly just friendlies until 2012 when qualifying begins.

Anyone know why we weren't invited to Copa America?

I don't know if this has been talked about but is Donovan retiring any time soon? Wonder if he'll even be on the team come 2014.

I can easily edit a list in if some one gives me one. I honestly know jack **** about prospects that haven't at least become MLS regulars.

He'll be 32 by then. I doubt he'll be retired but I'm regretfully hopeful that we're good enough that he won't be starting for us by then.

Figured if idea was accepted people would just post names here and come August finalize definite list. Update name when something relevant happens to them.
