just watched JAM CAN highlights. do you know why there were no fans? you guys caught some good breaks in this window with limited or no home crowds.

CAN dude (Millar who looks like a winger) def needs to bury that chance you mentioned. i'm guessing xG there must be something like 0.82 or so.

JAM had a huge xG opp at 22:13 when dude doesn't bury a pretty easy header from 7' out on a set piece. also, at 49:09 JAM hit the woodwork with a header off a set piece. JAM was threatening from the 10 minute highlight pkg i saw.

Jamaica wasn't threatening from open play, but from set pieces got a couple of good shots. Their best chance was a 4v2 counter late where a dude doesn't make any pass and takes a shot from '25 lol.

No idea why there weren't fans, but Mexico only had some fans last game because of an appeal. They were supposed to have 0.

I guess if you're comparing our depth to ****ing France or something, then sure.

But compared to CONCACAF, our depth is pretty insane.

When healthy, we have backups starting on Champions League squads. Weah, Konrad, Aaronson would be superstars on any squad but the top 3.

Even our MLS guys are MLS All Stars (for lack of a better term). Dike, Zardes, Pepi are among the most prolific goal scorers. Turner is the best GK the league's ever seen. And those guys are 3rd-5th on the depth chart when we're healthy.

Compare that to teams like Costa Rica and Panama.

One of Costa Rica's key attacking players is ****ing Johan Venegas. A guy who wasn't even good enough to stick around with the lol Montreal Impact. Most of these teams are starting a couple MLS journeyman types, and apart from Navas, there is basically noone notable in Europe.

Even Canada fills out their 18 with a lot of super lol MLS journeyman types.

So the level of depth vs. CONCACAF is night and day, that's pretty much indisputable. Sadly the results haven't been there for awhile, and you'd have to say the x-factor is mediocre coaches b/c in the past we had no issue bossing CONCACAF and occasionally making nice World Cup runs with lesser squads.
Nice to read some actual intelligent posts itt (and I obv don't agree with you all the time). This is spot on. And this highlights just how bad Berhalter is tactically. We are out here fielding the very best players from our domestic league, a league and players Berhalter loves and clearly rates. As Fossil points out these players should theoretically be better talent wise than what Panama is throwing out.

Now factor in it's fresh MLS All-Stars v either a) tired Panamanian talent, doing what our guys are apparently not capable of doing and playing 2 games in 5 days or b) Panama's 2nd team. The fact that Berhalter's team looked like it had no idea what it was doing and could not execute a single thing tactically is such a glaring indictment on him as a coach.

Again, I'll ask, what was the plan. According to GGG it was to "manage the game." Wtf ?

Those are separate issues.

The appeal was to get fans for the match, which was granted.

Mexico's been at reduced capacities as mandated by the govt. It had been 33% and I think was made 50% recently, but varies by state.

So the reduced capacity wasn't some kind of compromise, it was b/c of covid mandated reduced capacity.

If Zardes is ever on the field to take a critical chance late in a World Cup KO round match then we just need to fold the entire operation.

Do you guys agree that goal was flukey somewhat? I mean Panama was kinda dominating with scoring chances but still feel that goal was very lucky as it was
An OG.

I think we are fine if we can win at home against Costa Rica and win at Jamaica in next set of 2 games. If we can go W, tie, win over next 3… think we are in a good spot. A tie or loss at Jamaica in next window would be bad. Think a tie against Mexico would be good but obv we can win at home- hopefully we can get pulisic and Reyna back healthy. As bad as a loss is to Panama, we are still 2nd in the group which is a good spot even though it’s very close in that 2-6 range.

I still wish we had a better manager. Not sure why the USMNT goes to an American really as head? Would rather see some foreign influence. I miss jurgen klinsman honestly. Think he would put out better lineups and not so many mls all stars which I think is comical.

#USMNT loses to Panama for the…
- 2nd time in 24 all-time meetings (2011 Gold Cup)
- 1st time in 9 World Cup qualifiers
- 1st time in 6 meetings in Panama

#USMNT had 5 shots vs Panama.
That’s the team’s fewest shots in its last 28 World Cup qualifiers, since 2013 at Azteca (1 shot in a 0-0 draw).

The five #USMNT shots tie the team's fewest in 40 games under Gregg Berhalter.
The 0.22 xG are by far the team's worst under Berhalter (previous low: 0.53).
idk why some of you guys keep blaming mls for everything (i mean, i do, but)
even using an entire team of mls jobbers shouldn't prevent you from scratching out a draw in panama, as it hasn't basically ever before

seems pretty clear what the real problem is...

good fun, win, lose, or draw

In 2026, hopefully we have even more depth, and quality throughout the starting lineup. Puli is too fragile apparently, he needs to gain some weight os

Historical CONCACAF stats are largely irrelevant before 2010. Yes, they're fun to look at, but we've talked time and again how MLS has raised the MNT profile/level of CONCACAF at large far more than it's raised our MNT level. It's just a completely different landscape than it was even four cycles ago.
