nah zardes (once healthy) will still get more playing time than pefok cuz he's beerhalter's guy

although zardes probably would have scored on that chance as well. lol lingard, that turnover was michael bradley level bad.

The USSF said in its statement that it will not agree to a CBA with either union that doesn't "take the important step of equalizing FIFA World Cup prize money."

I hope this doesn’t lead to the men going on strike.

There's no real way to fix this. What they've proposed is a "pay when called up" system that works for Men but not for Women since there is very little money in women's soccer outside of the National Team.

You can try to split the World Cup money, but the Men's pool is $440M and the Women's is $60M. So you either have to take a massive chunk from the Men's team and give it to the women or admit that there's more money in Men's soccer and deal with the backlash on Twitter.

Men's team has to qualify or its 60 vs 0.

What do other federations around the world do? Maybe now that we have more men playing in Europe they can be lol money and just agree to it? Don't most players for big dog teams like Spain and England just donate their NT paychecks or charities or something?

Other federations around the world, by and large, barely pay their women. This was an inevitable ask by USSF after the past USWNT rejection of the same contract as the men was the crux of their winning argument in court.

It seems like the logical starting point is splitting all revenue sources and see what it would look like to give both teams the same % of whatever they bring it. I believe USSF currently packages some TV rights, advertising, etc so it is hard to say what % of say the Nike money should go to each team. This would likely lead to the men making more and the women making less, but it at least provides a starting point to the discussion of equal pay.

If the women want to pool the money they earn together to buy health insurance or give some of their money to a teammate who gets hurt I think that is great, but to ask the men to do it seems beyond silly.

IANAL.

The disconnect comes in that the women wanted more guarantees in their last CBA than the men had. The men were operating on a strict individual pay-for-play model. Get called up? Get paid. Get on the field? Get paid more. Win? Get paid more. The women didn't want that. And probably rightfully so. They wanted guaranteed money, support for the NWSL, and contingency pay for injuries and such. They argued for that and they got it. They made more in 2020 than the men did, in total, because they got paid whether or not they played games. Since the games were all cancelled, they still got paid. imo it was actually a real credit to whoever did the collective bargaining in the last round.

The only remaining big discrepancy lies in FIFA's WC payouts to federations which is not USSF's problem the way things have been structured in the past. % revenue clauses, by their definition, start with a pot. This adjustment is just asking for the men to agree to combine their WC pot with the women's which sets the men and the women against each other moreso than the USSF against either. USSF asks, men say yes, things get evened out and the lawsuits stop. Win/win. USSF asks, men say no, and they move forward with collective bargaining based on the principle that exists. USSF won't budge off the issue and the women can strike or whatever. But it's not a valid legal equal pay claim AS IT STANDS and this only strengthens USSF's case that it remains so.

There were some discrepancies about travel/accommodations that were staid in court (and will likely be fixed) but that's all still pending.

Yea that's where the disconnect comes for me. I'm admittedly not doing deep dives on this issue but from what I've had read the women wanting equal pay to the men is akin to Bristol Rovers wanting equal pay as Manchester United.

If the men had a different contract than the women and the women wanted the contract the men had (which doesn't seem to have been the case) then I could see that. But the women wanting a piece of money they do nothing to bring in (men's WC revenue) then that just seems like a ignorant impractical argument. I'm struggling to even find what their rationale is for thinking they are entitled to Men's WC profits which are paid by FIFA. The whole thing is really confusing to me.

They should stop paying the women until they get rid of the bad old players and let a young group in

We'll need more out if Busio, Aaronson, and Pepi because Pulisic and Reyna are out of the next round of qualifiers due to injury.

Which also means Beerhalter will start Zardes and Llegett every match.

Aaronson looked very good in the last UCL match. If he gets benched for Lletget, I riot. Actually, with this format, I'd probably play a bunch of 2nd stringers in match 2 of 3, and with all the injuries that probably means Zardes and Lletget will get some run.

Only thing that sucks is that the match is in Cincy. You’ll want to eat (and then regret) having a bunch of skyline chili

"That was a surplus ticket we sold thru the AO Store. Plan is to transfer electronically tonight or tomorrow AM."

That was posted yesterday when someone asked the same question you did so hopefully your tickets showed up last night or this morning.
