Why shouldn't we ask for more? And, personally, I don't think our chances of becoming a world power in soccer is down to other professional sports not existing. There are plenty of youth soccer players and there is plenty of money in the US to make it happen. Unfortunately, and this probably isn't a discussion that people will ever stop having, USSF doesn't seem to want to do what is necessary to make that happen.

We have a closed professional league, we have a closed youth DA setup, hell, we even have a closed coaching education system. People in power at USSF are only doing things for themselves and their buddy's so they can stay in power.

I guess I just disagree. If the NFL closed to day, our team in 2030 would be incredible. So many 8-12 year olds that would pick up the other field game instead.

US Soccer has only really had money put into it for like 30 years. Hopefully the next 30 are better? I stick with my NFL/NBA takes.

HINT: The NFL is NEVER closing down.

What pussy **** that is omg if the NFL and NBA never exited we'd be sooooooooo good. That's impossible to prove and such nonsensical rhetoric. How about we get better with the other 300+ million people we have who don't play basketball for football?

Sure, make soccer accessible for inner city kids.

You guys imagine if Russia inexplicably stopped playing soccer (or whatever tf they're good at) for some reason? They'd probably WRECK the NFL!

Football is more accessible for inner city kids than soccer? You're also shifting goal posts massively by running from one awful argument to the next when you're called out on it, but I'll go along with it.

Making soccer more accessible for inner city kids doesn't have to come at the expense of a scenario that will never happen (the NFL ceasing to exist). There are literally millions of kids (inner city or otherwise) who don't play Pop Warner football

We don't need more kids playing soccer. We need a better system to develop the ones we have. We have over 2 million kids in the 6-12 year old ages playing youth soccer. You can't tell me that's not enough kids to get a competitive national team. That's more then the entire population of many of the countries that continually kick our ass year in, year out.

Thanks for pointing out the sport. Guys if Russians stopped playing hockey for some reason, they'd CRUSH the NFL!

This doesn't depend on the NFL closing down. We also need to make soccer accessible for the poor latino kids. That's on USSF, it's not dependent on other sports closing down.

Nah man, just wait until the NFL and NBA don't exist anymore. You'll see! Until then just keep accepting the same old bull**** and keep your expectations on World Cup Qualifications at best. The time will come that the NBA and NFL don't exist anymore any day now

I'll agree here. Their development of the minorities in general for US Soccer has been pathetic. Nobody is defending the USSF, lol.

Hate to break it to you but nothing is going to change in 15 years unless there is a major change at USSF.

LOL this is as bad as waiting for the NBA and NFL close down. I'm right just wait and see what happened FIFTEEN years from now! Accept completely sucking in the meantime.

2 million kids playing soccer nationwide isn't something new either. You realize that right? Way more kids play soccer than play football and always have

I'm not saying you are defending them but they are the ones holding us back.

Soccer is clearly your #1 sport so you take not being the best in the world harder than other people (the general apathy of Americans...). You have no patience to wait and see and set unrealistic expectations based on population.

There's something to be inferred from that take, and it's that we need to have more black athletes playing soccer.

Would be interesting to look at other multicultural nations and their demographics.

France and central/south American countries with poeples of African descent come to mind.

The continent of Africa doesn't dominate world football, though.

Not to get into the argument between the two of you but I think it would be easier to be patient if there was clear progress. That progress isn't evident at all right now. In fact, I think we've regressed quite a bit.

Not the intent but it just so happens that a lot of our best athletes are black. Imagine if the top cornerbacks, runningbacks and wide receivers played soccer..? Point guards?

I think we're bouncing back OK with 3 of the best ever American players already on the team. Like I have said, 2021 and beyond.
