To his defense we had a remarkably long stretch of turgid full backs

Not to mention no M'Bappe.

I mean, sure. But, c'mon. You guys have had some serious talent in multiple positions for a while and you guys find a way to self destruct or you have a gaffer that has tunnel vision in how he plays the team.

Deschamps is absolutely not in the same boat as a Domenech or a Blanc that's just a fact.

We were an EDER away from winning the euro and in WC2014 we gave Germany their toughest game with a very young squad.

I mean again this comes with the lol friendlies disclaimer but for THAT USA team to go and get a result against THAT France team is pretty impressive. More WIM than the MLS jobbers who blew the World Cup for us.

Side note, unless Fekir has no knees at all left, sign him up. Looks quite the player

Josh Sargent with a goal for Werder Bremen 2 today.

That's 2 goals in 2 games

does anyone else not want Pulisic to go to Liverpool?

I wouldn't mind it because I think there would be a comfort level there with Klopp but it's hard to see him getting more than 25 starts in that team yeah? I actually think he pairs well with Mane. If Salah wasn't there it actually would be a pretty nice fit. With the 2nd string, though, it's not easy to see what he does with a guy like Shaqiri as his partner pushing forward in MF. I still think Pulisic is better in a structured role and he tends to get lost/overmatched when asked to do too much.

I can see Klopp's idea in acquiring him, he would be supreme Salah insurance, but I don't particularly like it from Christian's perspective. I'd rather he went somewhere mid table where he could learn to be more of a talisman. Unfortunately he probably demands too high of a fee to go somewhere like Leicester where he's a better fit, imo, than potentially getting lost in the shuffle at Liverpool or Real or another club that can afford him.

yeah Pulisic isn't phsyical enough for premier league either; not to diss on the Bundesliga which is certainly a phsyical league in itself.

I just think things like VAR and more young inexperienced defenders for him to run at clearly suits his game better. this is not even to mention all the stuff that was said in the post above mine about his fit/role at Liverpool...plus I do think some of the hype/shine may be wearing off Pulisic. It does seem that he's plateau'd a bit lately.

I think Pulisic just really wore himself out last year. I checked one source for his minutes played and in 2017-2018 he played almost 1700 more minutes (5790-4094) across all competitions compared to 2016-2017. Add to that the travel with games for the US team, champions league, etc. He was also given a lot more responsibility and the Dortmund team was a pretty big mess midway through the year. I’m interested to see how things go this season.

Do we need a pre-season refresher on some of the top US prospects and where they’re playing? I feel like we have lots of kids out there now.

Josh Sargent has scored 2 goals in 2 matches now for Werder Bremen 2 in the German 3rd Division. Obviously not the highest level yet but he joined the club last Spring but couldn’t play until this year I think because of his age. He could definitely get a chance at some point this year if he keeps scoring goals.

re: Pulisic physicality. Certainly I won't argue that he's not physical and that he'd have issues with the Otamendis and the Xhakas of the world. He's still just 19, though, and I would argue that the next part of his development may be in learning how to use skill and tactical acumen to compete against those guys. If he's indeed plateaud which: I mean, he's 19 so probably not and even if he has he's still our best player, then there is likely to be more gleaned from being challenged tactically and in a different league than continuing to run forward with Dortmund.

I still love the idea of him moving to the PL but I'd still prefer it be with a mid table team. I would love to see him with Yedlinny at Newcastle, for instance, a team that goes forward but would also be not so flush with talent that he would have trouble cracking the 11.

It's not the 3rd division its the regional leagues (4th division)

There's a huge gulf between 3rd and 4th in terms of quality

Unfortunately WB2 got relegated from the 3rd division last season - which would have meant much more suitable competition for development had they stayed up

He will get chances with the 1st team because of his unique skill set. I think he will play the same role Pulisic did for BVB like 3 years ago - 5-20ish minutes off the bench at end of games, maybe occasional start

Xhaka is absolute trash. Pulisic would destroy him.

But that's the point. He needs to play against the best in the world at some point. What do you think teams in CONCACAF are going to do to him? Kick the **** out of him just like they are doing.

A move to Newcastle is a massive step down from Dortmund. Newcastle situation is actually pretty dire except for having an elite manager. Zero chance they'd ever spend for Pulisic anyway so it's a moot point. Michael Owen is STILL their record signing.

Eventually he is going to have to make the move. I've no problems with him staying in Germany another year, and it's probably best for his development, but after that it's time to move up a level. I think Klopp would be absolutely perfect for him. And with a deep team who is competing on all fronts, he will still get plenty of games without being overly relied on or burnt out, and grow into a role over the next 5 years at a legitimate top club itw

LOL at thinking you need to be a physical player to play in the premier league. It certainly hasn't stopped David Silva, Mata, Coutinho, etc. etc. etc from being great Premier league players.

People most definitely overrate the quality of the premier league because of the hype it receives in this country.
