Just watching the game now, no idea how (and I've even seen it a few times in the PL w/VAR) where a player falls on top of/through a players back and it isn't a pen.

Not sure about the Davies one where he rounds the GK. Think the ref doesn't give it because it's a pen and a red if he does.

Also surprised no one got sent off when the benches cleared for the scuffle.

Canada could have had 7 or 8 this game. Davies was just on a different level. Like a mix of prime Robben and Walcott.

for the record, the -116 number was hours before the starting lineup was released. the line moved to +116 before kickoff. the betting markets thought GGG put out a weaker than expected lineup.

this translates to a double chance number for the U.S. of ~-290. so according to the betting markets, PAN had a 25% chance of winning the game. as i said after the game, it was a bad result (albeit not a particularly unlikely result).

i'm wondering if the betting markets are properly pricing in the youth of these teams we are starting (if i'm not mistaken, the three games in this window were the second youngest, third youngest, and youngest starting lineups for a U.S. wcq). it's obv a factor as these young players experience clolncacaf wcqs for the first time or first few times.

to be clear, i want GGG out and a stronger manager put in place like everyone else. my issue with LFC is his incessant posting about the general lack of quality MLS players possess. you'd think he'd understand we get it after his three-hundredth post on the matter. smh

just watched the CAN PAN highlights. was Herdman trying to track down PAN's manager in the tunnel after the final whistle? what was that all about?

Looks like the Canada/USA game in January is going to be in Vancouver.

CAN has tied USA and MEX away. their most difficult matches are behind them. they have a decent shot at topping the Octagonal imo.

It was weird. While Canada was celebrating with the fans after the match, a bunch of frustrated Panama players were not leaving the pitch and even like 15 minutes after FT were seemingly trying to start something.

hmmm. interesting. Herdman might have seen something and was moving to defuse the tension early on then.

regardless, a great night for CAN soccer. i was impressed with the sheer number of CAN flags being waved in one of the end zones.

So I can’t use my two tickets for the USMNT Mexico match as the trip is just too much of a pain with COVID testing and international travel. So before I list them on Stubhub or Ticketmaster I’ll sell them here for $500 each to anyone here who wants them

Lower bowl, sideline, top of the box extended, 13th row. Fantastic seats. Face $245, current resale price is $700 so $500 is more than fair. PayPal or Venmo and I can instantly e-transfer them. I’ll give it a few days as I’d rather someone here get it than done rando

I hate that Dest got injured. That is a big blow. GGG hinted that now Yedlin would start at right back vs MEX. Scally could possibly get his USMNT debut vs JAM.

Dike not called up.

Brooks not called up (I believe the other CBs offer more than Brooks, so I'm happy to see him being left out).

Quote:
“In life and in soccer, nothing is ever handed to you, nor should it be,” Brooks wrote. “The decision to leave me out of this camp isn’t surprising, given some of my recent performances for the USMNT that aren’t up to my standards. My job now is to work hard to be the very best I can be. I feel great about this week’s Champions League performance and my recent play with Wolfsburg, and will keep building on my performance there until I reach my goal of helping the USMNT reach the next World Cup.”
Disappointing to see Lletget get a call up.

GGG hinted that PuliGOAT might come in as a sub instead of starting vs MEX.

Noteworthy from Turner:

Quote:
Turner recently told The Athletic that Berhalter sat him down prior to the Costa Rica match to break the news that Steffen would start. Turner said it was a positive conversation for both parties.

“That was a personal conversation between the two of us, but just know that it was a good conversation for both of us,” he said. “I think we were both able to express a lot through each other in that moment. I understand why he wanted to make the decision for that game, and now we’ll see what happens in the next window. I respect every decision that he makes. Obviously, I’m a competitor and I want to be out on the field as much as I can, but I’m going to do whatever role I’m given for whatever game to the best of my ability. That’s kind of my mindset. And yeah, I appreciate what he did. He sat me down and looked me in the eye and allowed me to ask questions and explained a little bit about the decision.”

isn't this a net positive for CAN when it comes to playing any CONCACAF team (except USA which fields players with experience playing games in the bitter cold)?

For someone living in Mexico where daytime/evening temps are still regularly in the low-mid 20s, -2 to -8 is not at all mild.

yeah it's kind of a joke about how that's mild for alberta in november

funny thing is some of our players don't like the cold either
notably phonzie, who grew up in edmonton lol
