The best thing about Josh Sargent's situation is that he gets to learn and play alongside Max Kruse. That's going to be a tremendous influence on him. Especially if Sargent loves drinking and playing poker as much as soccer. Just kidding, sorta. But seriously, Kruse will be a great player to learn from. A tremendous player.

US Soccer!
1. profit
2. ???
3. profit
this should dissuade any rational person from thinking SUM should get more power than it has already...

Quote:
Kyle Martino took the criticism a step further, making an assertion (unsupported by any previously known evidence) that SUM controlled the decision to stage the U.S.-Costa Rica World Cup qualifier at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J., in September to prioritize profit from attracting the greatest number of Costa Rica fans. (The U.S. ended up losing the game 2-0.)

Martino wrote: “U.S. Soccer and MLS leaders one time sat on SUM board with an equity stake in the company, which could still be the case. I hope that as the campaign progresses my fellow candidate Kathy Carter will help make these relationships clear to the members and the soccer community. U.S. Soccer’s conflict of interest policy excludes SUM, which makes it possible for a SUM employee to be President of US Soccer or a US Soccer employee to be paid by SUM. Ethics authorities have told me that this arrangement is the reason conflict of interest policies exist. The contract SUM has with U.S. Soccer has never been bid out and the specifics of the deal have never been made public. All we know is the contract expires in 2022.”

Martino went on: “There are many perceived conflicts of interest but a clear way the arrangement affects the players was the decision to have a World Cup qualifier at Red Bull Arena against Costa Rica. Home World Cup qualifiers are crucial, which is why home teams go to great lengths to tip the competitive advantage in their favor. Even the length of the grass is meticulously planned. Having played Costa Rica in a WCQ at old Saprissa Stadium I can tell you this from personal experience, it was terrifying.

“SUM is the marketing partner for CONCACAF so it made a business decision, without consulting the coach of the National Team, to prioritize profit, which gave our competition an advantage by hosting a game in a location that would produce the highest turnout of their fans. Bryan Ruiz spoke in an interview after the game about how enjoyable it was to play in front of so many of their fans saying, ‘We felt very, very comfortable.’ This decision contributed to the U.S. failing to qualify for the World Cup in Russia, costing our federation tens of millions of dollars in lost revenue. It’s a decision that never would have been made without this conflict of interest.”

Already debunked as a hilarious way to drum up interest in León.

Mexico is doing a solid job of trolling USA soccer right now, gotta give them credit.

but this move makes zero sense for Leon - LD is in over his head in Liga MX at his age and it's not like the fans will root for him. but based on LD's quote (assuming he really said that), guessing this has to do more with politics and promotion than him actually playing.

How does Liga MX compared to the MLS?

Doesn't pain me at all. It's a good league.

Liga MX is an unretirement league.

León's now been home to the Mexican GOAT (Marquez), USA GOAT (Lando), and future US Soccer president (Wynalda).

I've been watching YouTubes of fan reactions to our WC goals. Makes me so sad we won't get any this year.

You probably wouln't have gotten any even if you had qualified

Yeah that's what they say every year. Then we beat Ghana and draw the Euro Champs and advance out of the group of death.

The group of Honduras, Trinidad, Mexico, Guatemala, and Panama was too much for the US, don't think that team was advancing out of the group of death. I mean the inclusion of the US in a World Cup group would arguably make it impossible to be the group of death.

Similar things were said about México when they needed a miracle from San Zusi to qualify, then they ended up beating Cameroon and Croatia and tying Brazil. The important thing is just to qualify for the damn tournament.

I’ll take that over not being able to beat Trinidad in a must win game.

That reasoning doesn’t work. Just because Team A struggled with Teams B and C, that doesn’t team the struggles would continue against other teams.

The roster we use wouldn’t be exactly the same as the roster against those teams either.

Right, just because we struggled against Panama and Trinidad and Tobago doesn't mean we'd struggle against Brazil or Germany. That's just logic!

Marquez went to play in Mexico after his retirement from Barca.

Panama struggled against us. We outscored them 5-1 in two games. They did better against Mexico being outscored 1-0. And Panama outscored Trinidad 3-1. Using “logic” we should destroy Trinidad in a must win game. We tied Mexico on the road so of course we should at least get a tie against Trinidad on the road.

I’m sure you’re just leveling though because you have Guatemala in the Hexagonal instead of Costa Rica.

Turns out he was lying the whole time. You would think this would be a fireable offense but I doubt that will happen.

I hate US Soccer more each day
