Bobby Wood didn't travel with Hamburg for todays game. Knee issues. Don't know how serious it is.

Gotta go to the last cool World Cup. Next is lolqatar, then the US, which is a little boring and also with the new terrible group play format which is AIDS. Can't recommend highly enough going, and if you go, go for group play.

I'm probably in again.

Clark, what is your strategy right now? Are you going to try to get hotels and flights before the groups are announced or do you wait and see where the US is playing first?

I'll do what I did last WC for group play. Plan on all USA games, then fill in around it based on:

-Cities I really want to see that the US isn't already playing in
-Nearby convenient matched close to US games
-at least one marquee matchup

Ended up with 9 matches over ~22 days

Yedlin has played really well over the first 60 minutes for Newcastle today. Looks like he's ready to come off though. Definitely not at full fitness.

One city country has it's advantages. Works for the Olympics.

With that said, would rather go to Russia and not going to either.

I don't think either will be dangerous. Why would they be?

Russia has an ongoing issue with the North Caucasus region/Chechens. These insurgent elements have pulled off several successful terrorist acts in Russia in the last decade or so.

Putin was worried about an incident taking place in Sochi, but Sochi is remote and controlling access in/out was an easy job compared to a World Cup scattered among 11 different cities (not to mention national team camps).

This is to say nothing of the Ultras who are a nasty bunch.

All this said, this wouldn't stop me from going. I went to see ENG:RUS at the 2016 EUROs and was a bit freaked out at times before/during/after the game (it was clear France didn't have a handle on things and how could they really). But it's true that you have to live your life or they indeed do win.

Russia fans at the Euros were legit scary. That wouldn't keep me from going if I had the chance this time, but still, it's a thing.

Speaking of things, Guzan looked like a ****ing rec league keeper last night. Two of ORL's goals were pretty much directly him.

i agree that the second goal (@ 1:54 of the video) is obv 100% on Guzan. i guess the other goal you're talking about is the third goal, but that is a well taken header... from close range (a goalie couldn't close out on that cross)... low... and deftly placed in the corner.

I do think the US #1 should have a go at a routine inswinger that ends up back post on the 6 yard box. But I can see your side as well.

he was shook after whiffing on that previous cross but you have to be able to get to a ball so close to the goal

props to ATL for that crowd. But man, the lighting in there really sucks. Looks like they're playing in a cave.

I'm probably the very definition of an intense casualfan but this was exactly my take as well.

lighting was fine inside the new stadium, i was there...not sure why all the TV broadcasts look so dark. anyways it was a weird but enjoyable game, glad we at least we earned a point. guzan sucked for sure.

btw nice avatar, I love Almiron...such a gifted player, gonna be sad to see him leave when he gets snatched up by a big euro club.

Go ATL United!
