It’s similar to the notion that had Ray Rice been 5 years younger when the elevator video broke he would have been just fine.

State College itself is very cosmopolitan. It's like an oasis in a desert of Deliverance-style hillbillies.

The more a place is obsessed with college football, the less I'd ever want to live there. They seem like incredibly depressing places. Places where people will forgive wife beating and child abuse, as long as they can have some pathetic vicarious triumph via "their" team. Get a life, deplorables of flyover country.

Because NYC, LA and SF don't harbor monsters in their dominant industries. News flash, institutions that create huge amounts of money and power corrupt across humanity. People ****ing suck, period.

How dare you try to dent the self righteousness of the almighty coastals.

Oh, and if you're truly intent on judging everyone, urban vs. rural is far more powerful of a predictor than coastal or not.

Columbus, OH and State College, PA are both great cities. They are some of the best places to live in their respective states.

Sure people suck everywhere, I agree. I am not saying people on the coasts are morally superior. I just think in general, a culture that is obsessed with how many wins their college football team has (or high school team for that matter), is depressing. It seems to be more prevalent in the midwest and deep south.

Also "one of the best places to live in Ohio" seems like a pretty low bar tbh.

I can't picture one--even with clear and convincing evidence
I was going to post Huey Longs famous line until I read the next post

That's almost as bad as New York voting 60%+ for a pedophile.

Right, makes no difference if it's "known" or not.

-150 he would have been re-elected given the chance.

There's bad apples all over the place, and people are dumb enough to vote for them.

If he followed protocol he might get paid. That is his only leverage, and he is making that known. Lying to the press is not a huge crime, all things considered. My guess is that he will resign, take a payout, and say that he is doing it for the good of the team and university, while stating that he could have done things better, while still sticking to the script of maintaining that he did the right thing.

Spot on logical play. However, people in positions like Saban are often unaware of how others see them outside their circle or worshipers. He may honestly think he did nothing wrong.

Urb's actual statement is not getting enough love:

"Unfortunately, at Big Ten Media days on July 24, I failed on many of these fronts," he said in his statement. "My intention was not to say anything inaccurate or misleading. However, I was not adequately prepared to discuss these sensitive personnel issues with the media, and I apologize for the way I handled those questions."

Would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when the Crisis PR people and the lawyers put this statement together. Really had to thread a lot of needles on this one

Didn't even mention Courtney Smith or the fact that he failed by keeping an abuser on the team.

Imagine being some PR scumbag like these guys. Not only do you distort truth for a living, you suck at it to boot. What a garbage life. Enjoy your nice house though, that's what's really important!

The whole "14 days" bit coming in an official statement from the University does not instill confidence. How hard is it to say, "We will move forward with the inquiry in a professional, expeditious manner but we will not let timelines interfere with gathering all necessary information. As soon as we have a decision we will let you know."
