Ludogorets Razgrad 2-3 Arsenal Trip Report

An early start and much excitement for our visit to Bulgaria. MindFckr channelled some Cashy by only paying me half of what he owed me for the trip and an unspecified payment date for the rest.

Bus there was surprisingly ok for an 11 hour journey. The route was Dortmund-Varna (on the Black Sea coast) which sounds absolutely horrific.
After checking into our hostel (forever a nit) we headed into town and sampled the local cuisine by way of a pizza for dinner.

Match Day
Some early present shopping to appease the wags and onto sight-seeing.
Sofia is a pleasant place with a compact city centre. Some Roman ruins, a few churches, and some commie architecture etc killed a few hours.

Last season was a massive sweat to get a ticket but thankfully there were no problems this year as we met up with my Dad at his hotel in the
afternoon and had them on hand. To the pub!

We went to a place where you pour yourself their house draft beer out of a pipe at the table which was good fun. A little lcd thingy counted your intake and we managed 5.4 litres.

At this point I busto'd the zip on my coat which was now stuck closed at the bottom so I had to step in and out of it like a right **** for the rest of the trip.

Another swift pint on the way to the stadium and we were there. Policing and organisation was on point and we were in the stadium within 10 minutes.

Great start and 2-0 down. The Arsenal Bulgarian supporters club had a banner to say thankyou Wenger for 20 years at the club and unfurled it on 20 mins. Xhaka's goal was in the 20th minute so a few hundred people missed the goal whilst a banner was going over their head.

When Ozil scored the winner everyone lost their **** due to the cuteness of the goal and the whole trip was made worthwhile. I had started pondering the logic of going to Bulgaria to watch football as the cold set in but no time for such nonsense when Ozil does the business.

Anti-semetic chanting was annoying. Using the word Yiddo is ubiquitous amongst Arsenal fans (I used to say it myself when I went to games regularly) but any attempts to sshhhh that part of songs just led to it being shouted out louder by others. Debatable as that is, a few people singing Ozil being German bred and liking gassing Jews was appalling and I'll be reporting it to the club once I find out how (grass)

On the way home I got pulled out of the bus going into Serbia by customs and a stern lady asked to see my bag. I said that I didn't have a bag and she let me get back on the bus after MindFckr spoke some Serbian to her. Should try drug trafficking, seems an easy game.

The journey home seemed to take forever, however we danced around various petrol stations singing the new Elneny chant, which goes to the tune
of the Beatles Twist and Shout.

A very successful trip and look forward to Arsenal winning a top4 trophy again and we get to do it all again next year.

Needless to say that at 2-0 down they were...well...on edge. DIdn't help that I said "HOLD" when Xhaka scored the goal for 2-1

Will do for sure. Though my favorite is a simple Burek with yogurt and Serbia actually has a great up and coming craft beer scene. Kabinet is as good as all but the super elite tier here and their Supernova ipa is unreal and a guy I met who worked at miners pub just started his own brewery Dogma. So a pleskavica, cevapi, Burek or late night loki with any of those beers is something I'd greatly look forward to
