Who knows, Spanish refs are useless. Normally more than happy to send players off for brushing past someone.

For the elbow I'm assuming?

Obv caught him but Bonnucci never even seen him, never a red which the commentators were calling for and I wouldn't have given yellow either.

Stop the Higuain bashing and start mocking Foulcow so we can at least get 1 Monaco goal out of this debacle.

Can someone explain how a club that doesn't spend money (Monaco according to this thread) can pay Falcao €300k+ pw? They're not making money from their 1800 regular fans, I'm sure sponsorship doesn't cover it and even their tax break won't cover it, so wtf is it?

I'm honestly curious and maybe just a little bit jelly.

Falcao was signed for £50m when Rybolovlev first bought a stake into the club a few years ago. Signing for that price when he was the best centre forward in the world. He's going to command decent wage. He signed a 5 year contract with them.

Therefore they have committed to pay him that for the 5 year, 2 year of that contract was paid by United and Chelsea.

The guys (Rybolovlev) a multi billionaire he can afford to pay the wages. They aren't spending money the way they did 4/5 years ago.

Answered my own question.

Meat traders gambling on making CL every year.

KW I couldn't understand how a club with 7500 regular fans can be in the position they're in, really shouldn't be possible.

TV money, sponsors and owners have made having huge stadia not as big an advantage as it once was.

Newcastle average 50k, Sunderland average 40k etc I remember reading in Fergies book he talked someone out of buying a club in the early 90s - I can't remember what one but he said they didn't have a big enough stadium to bring in enough revenue.

And always sign a pre-nup.

In May 2014, a Swiss court ordered him to pay over $4.5 billion to his former wife Elena, which was believed to be the most expensive divorce settlement in history.[2] In June 2015, it was announced that Rybolovlev had won his appeal against the 2014 judgement and that the settlement to be made to his former wife was reduced to approximately 564 million Swiss francs.

Obviously that increases their revenue as well. TV and Commercial accounts for around 70% of a clubs income. With the huge TV deal that the PL has it's meant the bulk of clubs are in the top 50 of revenue world wide.

Celtic had the 60th highest revenue, all premier league clubs had more. Bournemouth avg 11k per home game, Celtic avg 60k.

The owner has injected cash and made huge signings. Monaco are no longer going out and signing players for near world record fees. If you've got a billionaire owner whose willing to spend money and pay players huge wages. It doesn't matter if the club avg 10k fans per week or 50k per week. Players will go there.

He's tightened the purse strings now though and the club is heavily relying on youth now. I'm sure we had this discussion a few weeks back too.

dunno if the article u poasted mentioned this but monaco tax = they can offer half of what everyone else is offering yet still be the most attractive cash offer. its effectively a 50% discount on by far the biggest expense which football clubs face

pretty massive leg up on everyone else

just reading up on it for the first time now, looks like monaco agreed to pay 50m/year to the french fa in order to offset their advantage but the french courts struck the agreement down in 2015. dunno what the final resolution was

Yeah I know about their tax breaks.

Yes KW we spoke about this previously but I'm still not seeing them rely solely on youth when they spent 100m to buy those youths.

Think you'll already know I dgaf about Monaco lol, fully supported Ligue 1 clubs threatening them over their tax breaks a few years ago.

Ha, I don't either not now that they are virtually out.

I'm curious as to the £100m on youth signings, afaik they spent £30m this season (net) and made a killing the season before. They sell even 2 or 3 of these guys they'll make a killing. Already being reported they've turned down £70m from us for mbappe.

They signed silva for £10m, he's utterly immense.

Juventus have gone 621 minutes without allowing a goal in the CL.

Just 10 goals shipped by Arsenal in 180 mins.

Allegri...please.

re: Monaco

they sold James for £63.75m, Martial for £51m, Kondogbia for £30.6m, Kurzawa for £21.25m, Abdennour for £18.7m, Carraso for £14.67m, etc in the last couple years, and will almost certainly sell another £100m+ of players this summer
