I'm from lville, it's always rainy and highly unpredictable around this time of year. 78 and sunny at 1pm and by 2am it's 39 with tornado watches. Stupid city, it's why I moved to SoCal. Well, that and the women.

They want everybody good and drunk before they bet on the Derby

Everyone is hammered by 9am. I would love to go but I'm pretty sure I'd kill myself if I had to be in Kentucky outside the track

Check out the Kentucky Bourbon Trail.

Plan ahead and allow plenty of time.

ok it's not the KY Derby but it is the greatest performance in Triple Crown history

Almost certainly the greatest performance by a thoroughbred in the history of thoroughbred racing. World record dirt track time of 2:24 flat when the next best time since then is 2:25.8 (by Prove Out, who beat Secretariat in the 1973 Woodward by 4 1/2 lengths on an off track). The track record was previously held by Gallant Man, who won the 1957 Belmont Stakes in 2:26.6.

He also broke all 3 track records in his triple crown races (Preakness had to be confirmed later due to clock malfunction).

He would go on to set one more world record in 1973, 1:45.4 for 1 1/8 miles at Belmont Park. He also set the turf course record for 1 1/2 miles @ Belmont, 2:24.8.

A daughter of Secretariat, Trusted Company, is still alive at 34 years of age.

I had long forgotten that it was such a small field. That separation looked like greyhounds chasing a mechanical rabbit.
