Btw Che Guevara was an atheist so I think the cross kinda ruines the trying to emulate Che look thing. ( Also he supported Rosario Central so the stripes are in the wrong direction )

I love how some folk (not necessarily here) cite the handball as some kind of fail. It elevated him way above everyone else imo.

Although messi has scored with his hand, he'll never do it in the same context as Maradona did and will never win the world cup. Impossible to be goat if you haven't won the world cup.

Zizu > messi imo

I understand the handball in the context, I mean if you do a handball to eliminate the irish or Ghana you are a douche but if you do a handball against England then thats fair game imo.

Zizou was a king as well.

Half of these people supporting Messi are typical fickle (and most likely British/Irish) football fans.

People supporting Messi just dont have the same cultural background we have. They just cant get Maradona.

Southern italians get Maradona, germans dont, etc.

It's weird since you actually have read the thread and still are so laughably wrong.

Exactly. Very sheep like. Just like the whole Barcelona fashion.

The only black spot on Maradona's life was the fact he played for Barcelona.

Question about Maradona: Why didn't he go to one of the "elite" European football clubs? He was at Barca for two years before his peak, then spent the rest of his time at Napoli (then a season at Sevilla when he was washed up). Surely Real Madrid, Milan, Juventus, etc. had the money to get him. So why didn't they? Or were transfers just different back then?

ps: Maradona and Barcelona just dont belong together. Im really struggling to find words to describe it but it just seems like he doesnt seem to fit with the catalan ethos. Napoli otoh is basically the team for Maradona.

Oh gtfo.

Maradonna is the goat right now, messi could be the goat when its all done.

It's just so sick to think Messi is still only 24.

5 league titles
3 CL titles
1 Spanish Cup

297 club appearances - 211 goals
66 international caps - 19 goals

If he does happen to manage a WC victory he probably goes head and shoulders above everyone that ever set foot on a football pitch.

Things Messi needs to do to be able to compare himself to Maradona:

- Win crucial world cup games against elite opposition by himself.
- Win a world cup.
- Insult opposing fans during the national anthems.
- Have a stadium named after him.
- Tell FIFA to gtfo.
- Have his own religion named after him.

I may be missing other requirements.

Edit: Stop looking like a bitch every time Argentina plays.

Not a diss at all on Messi, but the discussion should be far more focused on that fact that two of the greatest players OAT are playing right now, not just Messi
Just found this and thought I'd respond for a laugh and because I'm quite an arrogant prick.

Man, sorry but I think you know next to nothing about football if you're being serious. I'm a Madrid fan and although I go to a lot of games, I probably see the same amount of Ron as any serious football fan. You either aren't a serious fan or you're high on crack.

Ronaldo can run fast, dribble a bit in a straight line, shoot and sometimes take free kicks. Now tell us when he's ever done that in the crucial matches. When has he ever shown the world supreme skills when under the greatest of pressure? He can't pass, tries too hard, is too greedy, probably masturbates to videos of himself in the shower.

Messi, unfortunately, plays his best games against us and in the big CL semis and finals.

That you think the game is the same as it was 30 years ago isn't surprising.

Maradonna at his peak could not do that today in serie a or any of the top four leagues.

30 years ago Liverpool were the best team in Europe with only british & irish players. I know the game isnt the same. So just like it was easier winning a local league with a second tier team it was also harder to win a CL for an elite player.
Nowadays the best player in the world plays in a top 3 european side or something. Maradona never did in his lifetime. He only got to play in 2 european cups in his life.
So just like its unfair for me to ask Messi to win a scudetto with Palermo, its unfair for you to say "hey messi won 2 cl".

yet you cite past examples and hold modern players to some absurd standard.

Maradonna is not carrying any mid table side to a title nowadays, nor is Messi, nor is Ronaldo, nor Pele, no one. Its just not possible nowadays with how all the top talent is amassed at the top 3-4 teams in each league. So stop citing that achievement as something that makes him better than Messi, because he will never get the same opportunity

So there are basically two groups in this thread:

1) People who realize Messi isn't quite yet the GOAT but that he'd have to have a huge falloff out of nowhere for the rest of his career to keep him from GOAT status.

2) People who are trolling.

Right?
