Average Euro game is probably harder, but there's an extra KO game to win at the WC. Don't really know what that has to do with the whole discussion though as Messi and most other possible GOATs never contend(ed) in the EC anyway.

Horrible? No. The medium European sides are well organised and tough to beat. Rather like the medium South American sides except there are more of them. Stick all those countries you named in UEFA qualifying and they all struggle to get to a WC. I think you chose pretty bad examples tbh. We can easily look at recent results and show them to be silly suggestions.

As for no one fluking the WC like Greece the Euro's. Greece were one of the weakest teams in that competition and should have been out in the group stage but for some luck. It doesn't prove anything. There have been many times when mediocre sides have reached the semi finals or final of the WC also and we are dealing with small sample sizes.

Ronaldo in 2002....mmm...fair enough. That is strong evidence for the ronaldo crowd though

Ronaldo in 2002 hardly won it single handed. Rivaldo, Ronaldinho, Cafu, Carlos, Lucio. Pretty sick amount of talent.

The real other WC won single handed apart from 86 was 62.

Probably the biggest difference between possible GOAT players and GOAT hair styles at that time anyway.

Cruyff should get swagger points in this discussion imo, he also has the best quotes which is amazing because maradonna and pele have some gems too.

I dont think the medium euro teams are hard to beat at all. Thats why the top teams finish euro/wc qualifiers with perfect records so often

In 2002 Rivaldo played as well as Ronaldo.94 Romario was closer to winning it by himself imo

Bebeto? And Im sure you can name a few more, you can't win a WC by yourself as a Brazilian. Unfair to hold that against them though

I havent watched enough footage of the 62 world cup to know but it seems to me that Brazil was preety good. But garrincha is a preety awesome player, Im still tilted I couldnt pick him in the best team of all time draft.

Yea 62 for sure.

Obv in 94 Brazil had good players as Arg did in 86 but I always had the feeling that Romario was gonna do something to decide if the game was in doubt and he always did.
