Watched the 30for30 the other night. Made Chestnut seem like kinda of a jerk/unlikeable guy. The creator of Major Legaue Eating is without a doubt a narcissistic douchebag. Kobayashi created you bro. Not the other way around.

It’s so disappointing not having Kobayashi complete in the event. They should be begging him to compete instead of making it harder for him to compete.

Chestnut destroyed the competition and wins almost every year. Kobayashi would at least have a chance and would push him. And the viewers would see a rivalry between the top two guys. Watching Chestnut win a 12th time was anticlimactic.

I wonder why they shortened the competition to 10 minutes instead of 12. Amazing anyone can eat over 70 now in 10 minutes. I wonder what the numbers would be if it was still 12 minutes.

The 30 for 30 Documentary was just kind of sad.

It seems like the MLE guy tried to make it into a WWE-style Kayfabe promotion. But he never let Kobiyashi in on the bit.

It is impressive in that here's a sport that's open to anyone with a mouth - no barriers to entry - and there's a huge gap between the #1 and #2. I can't think of an equivalent for a team/player in another sport. Maybe an elite racehorse like Secretariat?

i never thought of it this way but it's an excellent point. perhaps Simon Biles is in a similar category of dominance (especially this time last year heading into what was supposed to be the Tokyo Olympics).

The gap would be a lot closer if they made an effort to get Kobayashi to compete. After all these years it still pisses me off. I thought having a rivalry between the two best in the world was far more interesting than knowing the competition is over before it starts.

And we’ll never know how good Kobayashi would have been today; he was still improving and was a legitimate threat to win every time he competed. In 2011 he was able to eat 69 so he probably would have hit over 70 at some point.
