This decade means 1999/2000-2008/2009 imo

Where are you getting 90 vs. 72?

Lebron has been that damn good. Pierce doesn't have 3 MVP type seasons, he doesn't really have even one (maybe 2005-2006) but the Celtics were terrible. Pierce has 95 since 2000 season vs LBJ 89.6. LBJ's peak has been amazing and I'm normally not a huge pro-LBJ guy. LBJ has just been sick so far--he's way better than almost all the guys you were trying to include him with. He's in the periennel MVP type caliber player not the solid all-star type player.

Also capone,

I'm trying to discuss this intelligently and have a very open mind on this since it's somewhat subjective and there are no real winshares stats that mean anything. When you use being a UNC fan to make you out as somewhat of an authority to talk about Rahseed Wallace and use terms like "it's not even close," it's really bad for discussion. Please refrain from doing stuff like this and try to stick to as much facts as possible please (it's hard bc there aren't that many out there).

Why would you do this? The 1999/2000 season played most of its games in 2000 (this decade) and the 2009/2010 season is going to play most of the games in 2010 (next decade).

I'm just saying I don't have any real beef with Sheed--I just don't think he's really that high in any listing especially in comparison to Lebron who has just been much more dominant in his career than Sheed has been. LBJ has been sick and nobody in my lifetime compares to his statistical domination in basketball other than MJ. Sheed is a very good player, I just don't think he's anywhere near LBJ when it comes to significance by himself over the last decade eventhough Sheed has played more minutes. LBJ is just a freak. If he played only 5 seasons, his last 5--my opinion really wouldn't change that much.

Duncan at #1 is a legit opinion, but not having KG right behind him is a huge fail. I happen to have KG at #1, but it's close.

Capone,

Where did you get 92 wins for Lebon vs 70 for Sheed?

LBJ has 89.6 right now.

http://www.basketball-reference.com/...jamesle01.html

Sheed has 11+9.7+8.5+6.2+7.1+8.9+6.2+7.6+5.1+1.1=71.4 from 2000-2001 to now. If you want to include 1999-2000 and not this year than ~80.

I'm a little disappointed that you just posted b-ref's win shares. That stat is pretty much dismissed as almost totally meaningless by all of the top NBA statistical analysts out there.

Also it's funny that you're using a stat that has LeBron out of the top ten, which was pretty much my original point.

Untouchable,
Wins contributed aren't linear having a high peak is valuable.

All Win Shares based on box scores are going to be equally worthless. I don't know if anybody has been keeping track of play-by-play since 1999/2000 but I doubt that it's out there.

I think this is a pretty important point

I'd have LBJ over Sheed for the decade as well because I think having LBJ on a franchise for 7 years > Having Sheed on that franchise for 7 years for a multidude of reasons.

That said, people are almost certainly overrating LBJ on these lists in hindsight. And at only 5 years he shouldn't even come close to consideration.

The statistical rules of baseball don't apply to basketball. There hasn't been enough research done on basketball to confidently make this statement. We don't know either way.

Right, LeBron is 11th. Not that it means anything, but I found it funny that you went nuts on my claim of "LeBron probably isn't top ten" and then used a formula that has him at 11th to show that he's better than Sheed. Especially because I never said Sheed was better than LeBron.

The winshares list actually reads like a decent actual list

I think I'm only one who mentioned Marion(?) but he needs more love in this, especially given he's a much better defender than a lot of the names that are being thrown around on the fringe list

Since the current discussion kinda sucks: Billups has to be the most underrated player this decade right?

This goes back towards tarheels excellent point last week about us overrating these stats and offense in general because the box score stuff can be measured and the other stuff can't. This list is almost surely underrating defense.

He was hugely underrated during those years, but everyone now realizes how good he was when they look back at it.

Agreed. Thing is most people have Nash/Kidd on their lists when I think there has been a pretty good argument for Billups being as good as if not better than both this decade. Nash, Kidd, and Billups have all been fantastic and are pretty close imo.
