Yeah, Tiger had a "hot flash" of four straight majors, and 13 in 10 years. You'd have to stretch it out to a 19 years before you found any length of time where Tiger had less major championship, or PGA tour wins, than Jack. I wouldn't call that a "hot flash", but pretty consistent.

Still laughing at "Equally impressive is his record in all the majors for the 70s, easily the most dominant decade by one golfer in history", especially since Tiger won 13 in 10 years versus Jack's 8, including some of the most "dominant" wins in major championship history.

My dad travelled a ridiculous amount during my childhood because that was his means of putting bread on the table so my mom could stay home and raise us. Because he wasn't there all the time, that makes him less of a father?

Nope, but that means your mother raised you.

Tiger woods had a 12-year "hot flash" which is not a hot flash anymore, it is complete and extended dominance. Vijay and Duval each had one year. And coincidentally enough, both of those years fell during Tiger's swing change years.

Not trying to suggest that at all. I'm saying that under normal circumstances, Tiger blows everyone clean out of the water. Under normal circumstances, Jack was better than everyone but not completely dominant.

Tuq this is is silly, that's like saying that plenty of hitters had stretches like Albert Pujols, it's just that his has lasted for 10 years while other guys lasted for 1.

consistent greatness is all there is.

I mean really, of all the obviously borderline things I posted, you picked the one that is pretty clearly debatable to be a condescending dick about? Another reminder of why you are the nut lolo when it comes to discussing golf.

To everyone else: I'm not even sure I'm pro-Jack so much as that was an attempt to make a case for his "side" though. Pretty much not more that can be said though and no minds are gonna be changed so I really hope I stop reading or at least posting in this thread.

He's personally established it as the benchmark, not haters or Jack fanbois.
Obviously he's not going to come out and tell everyone he's the GOAT? He has immense respect for past greats, but you're making it sound like Tiger wouldn't tell a friend that he'd stomp on Jack if they played together. Of course 18 has been his goal and he's said so. That doesn't change the fact that he knows he's the GOAT already even without passing 18.

Also, sick hot flash from Tiger haha. Sorry tup, I couldn't resist. I'm sure you'd word it differently if you could go back. I know you're not just an outright hater and are about as objective as they come when it comes to someone who's not exactly a fan of the Tiger.

73 > 71 advantage Jack
20 > 17 advantage Jack

Jack still GOAT.

I'm right and most of you all aren't golfers!

p.s. while I still believe Jack is currently the GOAT I'm mostly just ****ing with you guys.

You probably are though, which makes it completely disingenuous. Lies, damned lies, and statistics.
But he won the 86 Masters, so why would I discount all the other tournaments after 81 when he shipped a major five years later?

That said, go ahead and tally up his win percentage from 81 backwards. iirc it still doesn't come close to Tiger's.

Even accounting for weaker fields, Jack's finish in majors is every bit as impressive. Just look at the run he had in the Open Championship. Between 1966 (when he won) and 1980 (T-4) Nicklaus competed in 15 Opens. The worst - THE WORST - he finished was T-6 in 1969. In that span of 15 years he had three wins and six runner-up finishes. So nine out of 15 years he either won or came in second.

Equally impressive is his record in all the majors for the 70s, easily the most dominant decade by one golfer in history:

It doesn't seem like you're accounting for the weaker fields based on the numbers that follow and you're lack of adjusting at all.

Setting that aside, take the 14 year stretch Tiger has had at Augusta since turning pro in 1997. He's only finished out of the top 8 three times, and is averaging a finish of 6.35. Migrate back to Jack's time and Tiger's Augusta record is unfathomable.

And others have already touched on the whole "most dominate decade by a golfer in history" so I don't think I need to add anything there. It seems we don't agree on the criteria for what makes up the most dominant decade in golf, so there's no point in discussing it.

I think its best if he sits out the year altogether. Next year will be a big indicator of were his career is heading.

He always has all those big $$ from the Japanese Heat rub he now endorses. Guess them alimony payments are huge

I would've thought the news about Galea would've sparked some discussion in here.

If Tiger's found to be guilty of some shady substance intake, surely he can't be mentioned in GOAT discussions anymore, right?

Well the doc plead guilty. So there will be no testimony about how he supplied Tiger.

I agree I thought there would be more discussion on this also
