What is the current line for Tiger passing Jack?

There isn't one. I'd personally make it about 50%, but I guess a betting line posted for action would imply closer to 60-65%.

I have a very strange feeling that he is going to pull a Byron Nelson and retire.
He seems like he is trying to handle all of this by himself and its showing on the course. I got a strange feeling he says f it and goes away for a few years.

But unlike Lord Byron, he will take a few years get his life straight and rise again. He breaks Jack's record but not for 7-8 years or so

never thought about that, but that sounds decently feasible.

I agree with this, but I keep thinking that he has lost the air of invincibility that he used to have. he still has to prove it by at least winning something this year

Ben Hogan won all 9 of his majors after turning age 34 I believe. He is clearly very weird in this but he also had a unique problem in being the 3rd best golfer born in 1912. He didn't have anything close to the natural physical gifts that Snead and Byron had and it took longer for him to develop his game to an elite level. Snead also won 6 of his 7 majors after turning age 34. Coincidence that Byron went into semi-retirement at age 34 and suddenly Hogan and Snead start winning majors? I think Byron would have taken a few more majors from Hogan and especially Snead but Hogan really mastered his game and possibly still would have won his nine anyways.

I think Arnold only won one major after turning age 34. Tom Watson won zero I believe.

There's no guarantee Tiger will win another major. His pretty lost with his putting lately and his driving has been mediocre at best for years now but he bails himself out by being the best iron player of all time out of the rough. If he figures out his putting he'll win 5-10 more unless some phenoms burst onto the scene and start beating Tiger's A game. If his putting remains at current level he'll probably just win 2 or 3 more.

What is to be gained by taking an extended period of time off from the game? Is he going to go live on some mountaintop and sit there doing zen **** and come back down a couple of years later suddenly ready to dominate at golf again? Golf is this dude's entire life, the last thing I would think he wants to do is step away for a long time, god forbid give it up entirely or something.

I personally don't buy much of the mental hindrance theory. I just can't believe that you can reach that level of elitism in a sport that weeds out the mentally weak long before they are ever known on a national stage, to be mind-****ed so badly by something he himself caused that it would destroy his game entirely. I'm way more apt to believe it's some combination of rust and variance. If he hasn't won anything 3 years from now, I'd say retroactively we have seen the end, but not anytime soon given the nature of the game.

When do you pay it out? Nicklaus won his last major at 46, anyone who bet that prop would have their money tied up for the next fifteen years potentially

+1

Who can score when the driving and putting is off? Tiger has always been a great putter, but only rarely has he driven the ball well, and that would occur for a period of weeks, not an entire year.

For all the talent he has, I'm amazed that he is still fghting two misses off the tee box. The push and the quick-hook. He will fight this as long as his hands are getting stuck behind him. Either no teacher has been able to fix this, or Tiger has been to stubborn to address it.

As for Haney, after reading an arcticle in a golf magazine, I can't believe how insecure this guy is. Knowing Tiger was going to ditch him, he quits so that he can do the "I broke up with you first" thing . Then he proceeds to throw Tiger under the bus for the rest of the interview.

It was clear Tiger didn't give a crap about Haney, but so what. Grow up Haney...you were the hired help.

In terms of my retirement thought,

1)He probably ends up with 300-500 million in assets after his divorce, so no need to play for cash.

2)In his press conference before Firestone he talked about not being able to practice due to his kids. His kids are only going to take up more of his time if he really is going to be a dad to them. I think this relates to his dad and how strong of a parent he was to Tiger. The dude obviously wasn't being much of a parent by banging everything in sight. I think he really wants to be a good parent from here forward.

3) He obviously never liked being in the spotlight off the course and if he quits , maybe in a year or two he stops being followed by the media everyday.

4)Mentality he has to be just brain dead, how he kept it all hidden for years is just beyond belief. To me he looks more fried at each tournament he plays.

Just my thoughts

What kind of bizarro world are we living in that Tiger Woods will take time off from golf to retire and spend more time with the kids? If he does this I'll just be stunned.

He looks lost. He should call it a year and work on his swing and life. Hurting his sporting image which is the last thing he had. Pretty epic drop off in less than a year. From auto first in this tournament to last. Hell hath no fury worse than a woman scorned...

I don't think he'll ever be as dominant, but will still average 2 major wins and a half dozen other tournaments every 3 years.

He's looked awful lately, but he still managed two top five finishes in majors this year. I don't know if he'll ever manage to win four majors in a row again, but he's just too good not to win again.

The biggest thing working against him is that there's just so much depth out there. What were the odds on McDowell and Oosthuizen for their wins? The globalization of the sport makes it tougher than it was for people in the the days of Hogan or Palmer or Nicklaus.
