You mean the same body that's enabled him to win the money title 16 years ago in addition to this year?

In comparison, Nicklaus won 5 titles total after his 17th year--his 18th year was the start of his decline. Tiger has won 5 times this year (his 18th). Tiger's career is already amazingly long.

I guess my point is that, if Tiger's game was so hard on his body, why is he so effective now?

Because he's a great golfer, but obviously as an athlete ages, the more injuries catch up to them. Peyton Manning is currently one of the top QB's in the NFL, where's he going to be in 5 years? But he is very effective now.

However you must admit that Tiger is perhaps the most injury prone golfer of his generation.

So you should be willing to offer a futures bet right?

My $1000 vs your $9500 on whether Tiger is on the PGA tour in ten years.
Notice that even though you said "10% at best", I only proposed 9.5:1 to make this a super slam dunk obvious bet for you. Please contact me so we can work out escrow, etc.

I get it, people luv them some Rory, but I think there is a decent chance he flames out essentially.

He had 12-15 really super solid months. Like, really really good. But he's been a professional for 6 years now, and has a total of 10 wins, with 8 of them coming in that super hot stretch. He's not TW part deux, which is what people want/expect him to be.

His golf swing is wonderfully natural and aesthetically pleasing, but technically it's not all that good. He's only finished inside the top 30 in GIR once since 2009, and that was at 28th. To put that in perspective, TW has only finished outside the top 30 three times since 1997. And Rory has only cracked the top 100 in total driving one time as well. More concerning is that he can't putt. He has only finished inside the top 100 once in strokes gained in that same time frame, at 82nd. That isn't something that's likely to improve as he ages.

Add that to him seemingly have other priorities in life and it doesn't seem unreasonable to think that he may have already peaked.

If he believed it was exactly 10%, he'd be breaking even laying 9/1. How is it a slam dunk for him to lay 9.5/1????

Few points:

Lol at people who thought he was done in 2010

Im with YourBoss on the Rory topic, he appears mentally very weak, most noticeably saying candidly after an event a few weeks ago that he can't seem to concentrate out on the golf course, and that his mind just sort of wanders even when he really tries to focus. Maybe it will change as he matures, but I could see him burning out no problem.

sure it's possible that Rory could burn out but it certainly isn't anywhere near likely. this is a guy coming off a really sick 2012 who demolished two majors before he turned 24, i'll bet on him getting hot once again sometime in the next 10-15 years and binking at least one.

i would bet a large amount of money that he wins another major in his career, think you're way overreacting to his down year if you set his o/u at 0.5

You never know with golfers. David Duval was the second best golfer in the world for a 3 year stretch, went down a little bit, then won a major . . . then finished outside the top 125 for 7 years in a row, until 2010, when he had a mini-comeback, going back to #106, before falling outside the top 125 again in 2012.

lol.. mebbe, but I'm not the one stating that there is a <10% chance he is playing on the tour in 10 years.

Pretty sure he should consider those types of things in his calculations

Duval bulked up one year. It wrecked his swing. He never recovered.

I'm not saying its likely, just probably more possible than most are giving credit too. He doesn't even seem that interested in golf at the moment.

He is having a brutal year out of nowhere. No injuries, no swing change, no nothing. He has just as many MC's as top 10s this year(more if you count his pathetic WD from the Honda)

The thing is, his stats don't back up the results. It seems feasible that he just ran extremely hot for 15 months. Go re-read my post. He doesn't drive it that well, doesn't hit that many greens, can't putt, and WIL. It would be cool if there was a similar thing to Baseball References most similar players; I'm not sure who he would line up to statistically. Maybe like a worse driving Sergio?

I mean, maybe .5 is exaggerating. He's obviously talented and when he puts it together it's pretty special. So maybe it's really 1.5. The point stands though.

FWIW, I can't think of a single player that I would bet the over on at 1.5 majors in their career from here out (minus TW of course).

What would you set his O/U at?

I'd take Justin Rose over 1.5 majors for the rest of his career.
