Tiger has many mirrions and mirrions of dollars on the line in the form of sponsors who are at this moment deciding whether to keep or dump him. The more publicity this incident gets, the harder it will be on any remaining sponsors. He's no dummy and knows this, so he'll plead to whatever is offered, publicly admit regret and a promise to be a better role model etc., and hope it gets marginalized ASAP. Whatever benefit he may have to "clear his name" wouldn't be worth the spotlight to try.
I read or heard somewhere that his PR team was all over Jupiter police yesterday trying to pin down what video they had of the incident and were planning on releasing, particularly since it was rumored that it would be very very bad for Tiger. The mugshot is bad enough, but a video of him being incoherent, unable to stand or walk, or belligerent (which was also rumored) would take it to another level.
It would be totally unsurprising if he's a pill addict a la Michael Jackson (or Prince), given the myriad injuries he's brought upon himself over the years and the ease of access he would have getting what he wants. That is the bigger story here and it may get no play, and it's too bad. He could be to the epidemic of pain pills and heroin which is wrecking the country what Magic was to AIDS in the early 90s, i.e. nobody is too rich or famous to be immune. If true I'm not saying he owes it to the public to speak up - he doesn't owe us anything - but it could make a difference.
