Terrible analogy Ben was 24 years old, not 44.

More importantly, Tiger smashed both the upper and lower parts of his right leg into multiple pieces which were sticking out of the skin. He damaged his ankle. There was trauma to the muscles and soft tissue, and the associated swelling requiring surgical intervention to release the pressure and restore the blood flow, just to save his leg at all.
That's his right leg - you know, the thing unto which you load all of your weight on every single (full) shot.

Ben smashed up his head, which he rarely uses at all.

Wow, man. Hogan was 36 at the time of the accident, had fractured pelvis, fracture ankle, fractured collarbone, fractured rib, near fatal blood clots, lifelong circulation problems in the leg, was not blessed with near the advanced procedures that Tiger had available some 70 years later, was feared he wouldn't live or ever walk again (neither of which was said of Tiger), and not nearly the honed athlete Tiger is.

You stand utterly corrected.

The fact it is his right leg is the reason he has a chance. If he had shattered the left ankle he would be done as that gets way more torque and pressure on the left ankle finishing the swing.

True ... and so funny something about that. Either in The Five Lesson/Modern Fundamentals or in an interview somewhere on the range, Hogan was talking about the stance and the feet. I myself had played with an open turned outward back foot to facilitate easier turn away ... and Hogan was saying the back foot must be square, front foot okay to be flayed out. The interviewer challenged him a bit. And Hogan calmly said, or maybe wrote, something like, "Yes, you can turn your back foot out like that at address if you want to. But that's not golf."

LOL> Priceless.

But good point that the good left leg could actually be Tiger's saving grace. He's gonna start hitting bombs and rockets again pain free at times. The issue is can he regain form and sharpness. Such a tough call. I say he will compete in tournaments. On the front page of the leaderboard on the weekend, at least.

I saw today on the golf channel one of the talking heads said he expects Tiger to play in the next Masters. That would be a treat but I doubt that will happen.

An old man told me once '...we ain't taking pictures, we're keeping score...'. The beauty of golf is the only thing that matters is the scorecard. Lee Trevino looked like he was having a convulsion when he swung the club but he won. Feet, head, hands can do whatever, just shoot lower than everyone else and you win.

Tiger's leg may be bad but his back has to account for a big part of his game. I hope he can come back and win, he's made his mistakes and I still love the guy and his successes (I could watch his first Masters win over and over again), but at his age and condition I will still bet against him.

I don't think he posts the video to social media if he doesn't have an expected time line for when he can return to play. The guys an insane competitor, freak athlete and has the greatest Dr's in the world at his disposal. How long after his video post of his rehab after back fusion did he tee it up?

That was the talking head’s reasoning. I hope it happens.

Line moved down to 80 to 1 after that bet.

Circa right now has odds of 200 to 1 on Tiger. It says all bets are action. So you lose if he doesn't tee off.

Sources: PNC Championship holding spot in next month’s field for Tiger Woods and son

"Three sources familiar with the situation confirmed to Golfweek that the PNC Championship is keeping a place open for Woods in the limited-field event, which begins in just three weeks"

The leg is not going to be a factor in many of his rounds. Sharpness will. That means he can win. I'd love to have some long odds that he never wins again.

Wow, that's embarrassing - I have no idea why, but I was thinking of a completely different athlete with the 1st name of Ben.

“I think something that is realistic is playing the tour one day—never full time, ever again—but pick and choose, just like Mr. [Ben] Hogan did. Pick and choose a few events a year and you play around that,” Woods said

Tempering expectations, this is basically what he already did anyway?

The time off at this age and the inability to practice intensely (back and leg) are the main issues, imo. He'll be sharp at times, and then he can win. Period, as I see it. I think he'll be spastic in contention more like mere mortals over this sharpness issue, and nowhere near a machine when in position to win. But he's probably one more injury from no mas in terms of winning ... a shoulder, the back worsens, etc. At 10/1 I'm on him winning again somewhere, this 1000/1 stuff is meh, imo.

Good plan for Tiger. He can dangle the carrot of occasional tournament appearance and win on the tour as personal motivation. He may or may not achieve those things, but also, he can be a father to his son and daughter, and in terms of golf, apply his energy towards developing his son's career.

At some point you have to accept getting older, and the wear and tear that has accumulated on the body in pursuit of goals. Hopefully no more driving on the road for this guy, drugged out on back pain killers, wishing him well.

He broke his body down with insane exercise. Then hooked on pills dealing with it. Too bad. Add a dollop of bad marriage and scandal, just as his dad warned against, and it saved Jack.
