sorry Falcons fans, that is a brutal loss. I was very willing to accept the loss bc the Falcons simply played a lot better for most of the game. Julio is ridic, the defense was so much more effective against the Pats than I thought they would be. just gotta give credit...but also realize that sometimes the GOAT is gonna GOAT and this Pats team is just so ridiculously disciplined and tough to not give up in that spot. amazing
funny, i did the same thing for the exact opposite reason. starting celebrating at halftime, hard

99.7% probability of a win...that's mathematically pretty close to getting it in with set over set on the flop two hands in a row and losing both times.

I've said a million times, the pats let teams beat themselves.

Every time Brady goes into his no huddle offense the other team crumbles and the fat guys can't keep up. Literally EVERY time.

I do feel for you. I am obviously elated, but I've been there and know how much it hurts. Don't give up on them.

Pats covering down 28 on the points line has to be a record right? Not only for the superbowl (obvious) but any game?

At first I felt the most sympathy for the city of Atlanta, thinking how bad it must feel to taste a championship and have it suddenly ripped away in the final moments.

But then I remembered that there are people who took the Falcons with points and the over who probably spent some of their "winnings" on credit before the beginning of the 4th quarter. For their sake I hope they're able to return some of those purchases.

Closest I remember was this game.

From the 2008 Lions season, Tampa was 8 point favorites @ Detroit, down 17-0, (25 points ATS) and ended up covering easily.

Never. Sports at the end of it all is the greatest escape from real life bull****. What a ride it was, go Falcons.

Wow, Bills down 32 and were -2 and ended up covering. So ****ing sick. I'm glad I don't bet as a career. I barely can take losing at Hearthstone or when I used to play, small stakes online poker.

I think them taking away the prospect of the cheapo FG winning it was enough, they hated that teams would win the toss and get like 3 first downs and the game was over. I do think it's fair to say tough **** if your defense can't keep the other team out of the end zone. Admittedly both defenses are usually gassed at this point, but it's still more than reasonable.

It also brings up more interesting decision making. What do you do on the opening drive if you're facing a 4th & 1 at the 20, or 4th & goal at the 2? What if you're down 3 in OT and in the same spot?

I wouldn't hate it if they changed the rule and let both teams possess the ball regardless of first score, but the current system is better IMO.

If you don't seize the opportunity to win in regulation hard to argue you deserve anything

By the way, I want to say that I was probably a bit too bullish on the NE defense, but also that I did hedge a bit and mentioned that Atlanta's RB's probably worried me the most.

Pats, once they stopped making mistakes, did drive the ball at will against Atlanta's defense, so if we meshed all the posts to start this thread, it more or less turned out the way we thought it would.
Just not in a sequential manner (Atlanta drives, Pats drive, etc.)

I'm super happy we won, but legit feel bad for Atlanta fans. I know how it's like to get broken by a circus catch.

If you can't win in regulation and you let the other team score a TD in OT then tough ****. They gave you a chance to stop a freaking TD. Ya didn't.

At some point the game has to end. Unless you want to play football like winning a tennis game.

holding the Atlanta offense to 21 points is a very solid result. I don't think we realistically could have expected any better than that

I believe the Pats were -10 vs the Bills like 5 years ago and covered after falling down 21-0

I'm disappointed by the lack of Arthur Blank gifs. Every time they showed him down at field level I wanted to laugh and simultaneously give him a hug. Also he looks like some kind of villain from the silent film era.

How many SB's do they have to win before that starts to be hyperbole though? I think anyone needs some luck to win a championship in sports. But you do it 5 times and maybe you're just really good. That drive in overtime was just a good team doing good things. And I've got no love for the Pats, just much respect.
