Also remember they passed him over once when they broke up the Cosell/Gifford/Meredith act, and he held a grudge about that pretty good. Whatever they tried failed miserably, so they went back to AM, and he put their feet to the fire during negotiations, really made 'em pay for the perceived snub.
Also, he was once paired with a horrible partner in the booth (can't recall who, sorry), and he never quit bitching about it. But again, I felt sympathetic to AM on this score, too. Even a prima donna can be right sometimes.
