Rewatchables should be entitled unlistenables.

Recent movies were Dave and Proof of Life. So my 8 out of 10 is hyperbole but the other two are a Star is Born, as you mentioned, and The Warriors. The Warriors is the only one of those movies that us rewatchable by any measure. Dave is a decent movie but if it comes on nobody is going “Oh great this part of Dave is coming up.”

Going back through the total list probably 35%-40% of the movies do not belong there. I went through the whole list right now and could dismiss 13 of the movies they have done as having no business on that list. And that is with me straining extra hard to realize my tastes are not everyone’s tastes and realizing when a sizable number of others find a movie rewatchable. You Got Mail is not in any way shape or form rewatchable to me. I don’t want to see any of it, but I realize there is a significant audience for whom that movie absolutely is rewatchable, so it should be there. But then a movie that is in my wheel house, like Michael Clayton, which I really enjoyed and like, is on the list and I am like no. No no no one thousand times no. It should not be on such a list. It’s got to be more than movies Bill Simmons himself likes or the two females he let’s talk like.

Enough with the rant. With a Star is Born there has to be a minimum time a mo ie has to have been out before it can even be considered. I don’t care what time limit it is though, because a Star is Born should never be listed as a rewatchable movie.

It’s not like there are slim pickings of movies to select either, so basically it is just a bill Simmons masturbatorium.
I just can't disagree with this more. Rewatchables is fantastic, and I think they're up to 60 now, so I'm not sure what your 20 movies comment relates to. In terms of the substance, I disagree that it's a Simmons-fest. One of the things I like most about it is that other people definitely argue with Simmons, especially Sean Fennessey and Shea Serrano. The Godfather episode was an example of the co-hosts just mocking Simmons mercilessly. (Shea Serrano is my MVP of the podcast. I had no idea who he was, and now I'm listening to his Villians podcast and looking forward to reading his books.)

I mean, taste is taste, so whatever. I've just been enjoying this podcast so much recently that I'm stunned by your comment because my experience is so completely different from yours.

Serrano is the worst Ringer staff member by far though. He is the worst of Simmons with none of the positive parts.

Re: Sports Media Discussion (RIP ESPN)

They just announced that the next Rewatchables is FLETCH, so just LOL at the haters. Can't wait.

Also seems like I may be optimizing my Serrano experience by focusing on podcasts rather than Ringer columns.

And all the fact checking articles. My God.

That Shea Serrano is as successful as he is is a pox on mankind.

The actual worst. I watched like 10 minutes of some live NBA preview they did one year and this dude was cringe after cringe and stoodout amongst an extremely cringe panel of RINGER staff. Horrific

Will give most anything with network or MRubin a shot. house is a complete dud. i do miss the old food news with litman and jacoby. fennessey is fine, and the press box pod works for me. serrano is lolno. skip all the basketball content and go with Zlowe.

Re: Sports Media Discussion (RIP ESPN)

1. Sean Fennessy, Juliet Litman, Amanda Dobbins, Robert Mays, Jonathan Tjarks, Titus
2. Kevin Clark, KOC, Simmons
3. Jason Concepcion, Chris Ryan, Mallory Rubin
4. Tate, House
5. Shea Sarrano

Shea being popular will never make sense to me.

Re: Sports Media Discussion (RIP ESPN)

Like how this is showing that everyone’s got different tastes, but can agree Serrano sucks. Yea man, tell me again about how you’re Mexican and threaten to cut people or whatever, that’s gold.

Of stuff I listen to, I’ve got it:
Cousin Sal, Fennessy, Kevin Clark,
Sports Bill, Titus, Web content Concepion, Litman
Movies Bill, House, KOC, Reddick,

Big gap

Chris Ryan - by far the most egregious Simmons ball washer, laugh louder buddy, we know you can do it.
Chris Vernon - adds nothing, and gives off a weird fake black guy vibe
Shea- Covered above

Gap
Woke tech lord Bill - guess he’s done well for himself so he’s probably doing something right, but there’s something about listening to him act like he’s some kind of tech visionary that is incredibly annoying.

Amazed that so many people consume the ringer.

Sort by Sal/random good guest podcasts and avoid everything else.

That's a Memphis accent (see: Gary Parrish, Justin Timberlake, etc). Vernon is awful though.

Of stuff I listen to including recurring guests:

Curtis, netw3rk, Cousin Sal, JackO
Shoemaker
Simmons, Rubin, House
Titus, Tate (I don't get Titus's schtick; it's like he wants to be a more self-aware version of Barstool? But he doesn't have the cadence or ability to pull it off like Katz/PFT)

Serrano, Vernon

I haven't listened to Redick in a while, but when I did, he would be in the Shoemaker tier probably.

Serrano is terrible, but House is the worst by a huge margin.

House often doesn't prepare at all for the podcasts he's on, and the few times when he's actually done some research and tried to come up with content in advance, it's still horrible.

Re: Sports Media Discussion (RIP ESPN)

I think Serrano has an extremely low floor, but hits the occasional dinger. He's like Dave Kingman or like Ricky Davis in basketball - odds are it's going to be terrible but once in a while he has a good night.

House is far worse.

Yeah every now and then Sorrano comes up with a gem like "which had a bigger impact, the comet from Deep Impact or the crane kick from Karate Kid". Just masterful.

Yea the Ringer is completely unreadable for me. And then the staff pop up on the Simmons pods once in a while as a reminder of how insufferable they are and how awful the Ringer is

Still think Serrano is hilarious in both Rewatchable podcasts and his Villians podcast series.

“Barstool is a website for boys whose goal in life is to grow up to be Donald Trump Jr” is as savage and as accurate a burn as I’ve heard in quite some time
