Lebatard dumbsplaining economics to Manfred = Manfred owned is an unusual take.

I can't think of a show that's worse, although it's likely I zipped past a few on some long driving trip.

Exactly. Bland, insipid chatter.

seems like manfred was technically correct while avoiding the actual point. yeah he didn't get "player specific" plans which is what he said, but he knew it would be slashed.

the marlins were 1 or 2 pitchers away from being competitive and none of their good players were old. their offense was top 3 in the NL. sad

are there ppl in Florida willing & able to spend money on pro sports?

they have a lot of teams, but it seems like about none of them have any fans

(unless maybe really good like the Heat were, possible exception for the Tampa Bay Lightning, but again, they've been pretty good for like 15 years)

Florida is full of people from Not Florida. I haven't been in a while but the last Rays-Yankees game I attended had way more Yankee than Rays fans.

Is LeBertard's argument that Manfred should not have let Jeter and others buy the team bc Manfred knew they would slash payroll *and* slashing payroll was not in the best interests of the organization long-term? Or is his beef something else

It's basically the idea that the MLB brass line is "We love Baseball in South Florida and really want to find an owner who can support a competitive team" while installing a guy who traded everyone away after 2 WS teams, replaced him with Loria who basically put no investment into the baseball side while fleecing Miami for Millions in Stadium $$, then replaced him with a group whose first act is to take all the promising players and trade them away to slash payroll. So they say they want competitive baseball in South Florida, but have now had 3 straight owners not committed to that.

I lived in S FL for 10 years. Like anywhere else, when the team is good/winning, people watch/attend. But when the team sucks, no one pays attention.

When LeBron was here, you had to pay a cover charge to watch a playoff game at a random ****ty bar like the Ale House or Bru's Room. Even during the regular season, bars would be packed.

And I know the Marlins would jack up ticket prices 3x normal face value when teams like the Yankees/Mets/Red Sox were in town. Hell, even parking would be $25 when it was normally $10.

Don’t a lot of teams have adjustable pricing based on the opponent. Think of it as normal pricing and a discount when teams nobody wants to watch is in town.

Yeah, it's completely normal. I have Dbacks & Cardinals tickets, and will be getting Suns tickets next month. All 3 have 4-5 price points for games based on who is in town and what day of the week it is. Safe to assume that's the case most places. Saturday night vs the Yankees isn't going to be the same price as Wednesday afternoon against the Padres.

The Heat had a terrible crowd for a team of that caliber. Remember the whole "fan up" thing?

Does it drive anyone else crazy about some of these radio sports talk shows intros when coming back from commercial? You want to do a 10-20 second lead in with a song fine but do they have to play songs almost in their entirety? If I wanted to listen to music wouldn't I be listening to one of the many stations that plays music? Pisses me off to no end!!!

Manfred didn't get shredded by Lebatard. Tard kept harping on an erroneous point and had nothing when Manfred gave him a proper answer.

Agreed.

Out of his depth bc as Manfred said: it's like it was a deposition; Manfred is a lawyer ldo. Manfred still lied tho bc Dan asked him if he knew about an overall plan to shed salary, not exclusively player-specific moves.

Dan can be immature and lack sophistication at times. He uses the city of Miami (and it's importance to him) as a proxy for the hole he feels as a near-50-year-old, childless, never-married bachelor. I don't think a more developed person would've sobbed over John Skipper resigning either.
