Hasn't done a podcast in two weeks, he might be out of my rotation of people I have interest in if he doesn't do something relevant fast.

Grantland guy writing about TV can't be bothered to check his facts

Quote:
(Note: The kitchen set’s mustard-yellow walls are a nod to Louis C.K.’s short-lived HBO quasi sitcom Lucky Louie, but its saccharine groaners and lack of Pamela Adlon as an on-screen wife feel more like sub-King of Queens network schlock. C.K. may not harbor fond memories of that show, but it was much more a statement about, if not rebuke of, fat-guy-with-hot-wife four-camera pablum than this recollection suggests. Also: Bob Saget!)
The episode wasn't about "Lucky Louie", it was about another piece of **** "sub-King of Queens network schlock", most likely another pilot of CK's that didn't get picked up (I forget the name already).

The article on Ochocinco is so terrible - I need to stop reading this site.

I don't care about baseball or football though. He will have to do better than that.

god, and lucky louie wasn't a quasi sitcom either, it was a straight sitcom - do people who are paid to write about tv know how to watch tv?

i mean, some of them do, but the fact that the writer couldn't check out any of the reviews on an episode that aired six days ago in order to check his facts speaks even worse of him

To be fair, all Kandell says is that the yellow walls are a nod to Lucky Louie.

To be fair, the very next sentence implies that the entire show is a "recollection" of Lucky Louie.

I don't think it does

Well then I don't know what to tell you 'cause it seems pretty clear that's what he meant by "[Lucky Louie] was much more a statement about, if not rebuke of, fat-guy-with-hot-wife four-camera pablum than this recollection suggests."

i probably shouldn't post itt anymore after the last debacle but louie definitely has fond memories of lucky louie. he said on one of the ll dvd commentary tracks that it was the work he's most proud of over his entire career.

not that i expect a guy reviewing an episode of louie to have watched all the commentary tracks for lucky louie; just sayin.

LOLOLOL, it continues, the very first paragraph of Klosterman's article on Louie (in which he says the show is brilliant btw). Criticizes the first scene because, among other things, what it was "satirizing wasn’t how Lucky Louie actually was." Admit I thought it was referring to Lucky Louie as well until someone in OOTV mentioned Saint Louie, but then again I am not writing a national column and criticizing the satire in my opening paragraph. And its been like a week now, he should have seen someone mention it, perhaps when his colleague also made the same mistake:

Quote:
Last week’s episode of Louie opened with a quasi simulation of his failed HBO show Lucky Louie, punctuated by Louis C.K. wearing a backward baseball cap and destroying the concept (and his hypothetical career) by questioning the realism of what they were doing. For maybe 90 seconds I found myself thinking, “Goddammit, here we go. This is it. This is going to be the first bad episode of Louie, because he’s going to obsess over something that’s essential only to him and not especially new and not even accurate (because the show he seemed to be satirizing wasn’t how Lucky Louie actually was).

Should have waited until the end of the column to criticize, he corrects himself in a Reader's Note at the end of the column.

I hadn't listened to Jonah Keri before, but I really liked him on the last pod. He wasn't a total Simmons lapdog, and he spoke pretty intelligently about a lot of the baseball stats. It was nice for a super casual baseball fan like me to get some of that insight.

The stadium piece started off so bad, and IMO offensive, but it eventually turned out pretty decent.
