The situation has been described as involving internal resistance and I wouldn't be shocked if a Barstool show would have had a chance to succeed a few months ago but that the treatment of Jemele Hill inspired some ESPN employees to resist more vocally.

It may not be specifically about Barstool. It may be a repudiation of the culture that Barstool is considered symbolic of.

This isn't the end.

Why did she feel like she had to black out the name of the company in that picture while explicitly identifying it elsewhere?

That contract is basically saying, "this job is going to be really fun and you are getting paid for it". Can't believe she turned it down.

That does sound better than, "This job is going to suck and you'll be working for free."

It also reads like "Portnoy can call you a dumb c*nt whenever he wants and you're signing away your recourse"

It's kind of a filter for people who wouldn't fit into their workplace culture.

She probably isn't the first to reject the contract based on that. She's only the first to make a scene of it.

Does Bill Simmons ever do pods on the one sport he's good at (NBA)? Leave those useless pop culture podcast to the ringer nerds no one listens to

That's the rub though, people will argue that no workplace should have that sort of culture, not even South Park's.

She knows the support she'll get.

He did one with Haralabob on the ringer NBA show recently. Honestly, he's really not even that good at basketball any longer. Tons of casual fan terrible takes including "labron is a great passer, but he isn't a GREAAAAAATTTTTT passer" which got him laughed at by Haralabob.

How does it do that? How is what they do any different than being on the set of an Apatow movie?

Been to the movies lately?

Yeah I know that's glib, but seriously, seems pretty reasonable that there are plenty of jobs out there where crude humor is a prerequisite, and you should know that going in. I doubt a site like barstool can exist without it. Now you can argue barstool shouldn't exist, but A) good luck with that, that's partly why it's popular, and B) say high to Tipper Gore for me.

1. lol

2. lol again

3. There are tons of ways to do humor (even crude, lowbrow humor) without being overtly sexist or racist. Barstool chooses not to.

Don't know what you're loling about. Jobs like that not only exist, but contracts like that are used to implement the holding of an actual case in which a writer for Friends claimed she was sexually harassed by being exposed to jokes in the writers room. The contract isn't meant to, and wouldn't, protect the company from sexual harassment aimed at the employee herself.

That's not how to do it. You should make a bunch of assumptions and spout off like you're an expert on topics you only know tangentially.

Fwiw, Jenn Sterger going in hard on espn via Twitter today, citing actual sexual harassment cases and not just boiler-plate contracts.

barstool really isnt overtly sexist or racist at all. or if they were, haven't been in a while. maybe portnoy, but hes always been willing to maintain his persona for the 'good' of the company. he's obviously a major douche at heart but he's harmless and definitely self-aware. not to say there's any real content outside PMT but anyone offended by their current work probably shouldn't have an internet. or leave their house

Yea that was pretty terrible and Haralabob sounds like an insufferable douche. I don't take Simmons seriously at this point and like him in the car talking about sports as a kind of background noise. But everyone else on the Ringer is horrendous and I'm not listening to him review the Vanity Fair awards or whatever.
