Berry's contract runs through 2021. He is responsible for driving a ton of traffic at ESPN.com, his columns are usually at the top of their most viewed articles. I wouldn't be surprised if between that, his podcast, and his tv appearances if he's getting 7 figures.

It's also possible they think he's too expensive now, but his contract makes it impossible to get rid of him. I'm sure there are other people like that at ESPN - folks they'd like to have canned last week but are under contract.

I have it and I love it. Great for sports, which is literally all I need cable for.

And the few channels it doesn't get (SNY, MSG) I can get online using someone's login. That's what I'm actually surprised places like ESPN cracking down on. The fact I can use my cousin's boss' uncle's brother's landlord's daughter's login to watch whatever I want online in perfect quality. Not complaining but I absolutely love it.

Vue GOAT tho

yeah I would think they would start tracking IP very soon.

I remember that ballstreams site that had all the NBA games, even they would track IP. Yet billion dollar telecom companies don't?

Like I said previously, I think give it 3-4 years and they might start tracking internet activity to see who is streaming, what sites are popular, maybe banning those sites.

I've gotten notices from comcast about downloading movies before, but obviously if they're getting 150-200 a month then they don't really care. The piracy isn't being taken out of their bottom line....yet.

Woj's actual basketball acumen is pretty lacking, inferring from numerous radio interviews over the years. Stein would be about your average TZ'er otoh.

Woj is a RealGM poster.

I've always gotten the impression that SAS has the goods on certain pro athletes. Like, he could completely wreck them if he wanted to and they know it. But he doesn't, and they know he won't. So it ends up being a mutual respect. And ESPN sees that which is why SAS makes what he makes.
SAS is a toolbag but he's not as terrible as everyone says he is.

But he's still terrible

There's no way Stein is TZ average. Not saying he's VMF but he's a good deal below average.

Maybe, I'm prbly just ascribing a competency to him because I've never noticed anything egregious.

Woj has to be an upgrade over Stein in general for ESPN though

Maybe not in the sense that most in sports media are terrible so it improves his grading when on a curve.

But he's pretty awful. And his style of debating and discussing issues is a microcosm of the lack of substantive discourse in this country as it relates to issues even beyond sports.

To say he ruined America would be a bit of a leap, but he is symbolic of a culture that can't constructively exchange ideas and has to rely on sensationalism instead.

Several of the people fired still under contract so ESPN hoping most find jobs.

Can someone explain woj hate? He seems to know every trade before it happens.

Disney likely announces a restructuring plan soon which all these people will fall under. Given that, they honestly won't be too worried about the contracts (even if they seem massive to an outsider) as they'll get to throw all those costs into a restructuring bucket and show the savings going forward.

I just want to say thank you to the 90% of the population who either dgaf about sports or doesn't have the time to watch them for subsidizing my cable bill for all these years.

ESPN (and TSN/Sportsnet up here) really lived high on the hog these past 20 years ..... this type of cable arrangement doesn't happen in Europe or Asia.

A lot of people they fired were under contract and will continue to be paid unless they get another job.

Espn is crazy.

Espn asked people to work. Ed Werder was asked to cover the Saints draft after he got fired but declined. He is still getting paid though. He said he is under contract and espn is not going to likely offer buy outs but if you get another job espn will stop paying you.

Seems extra dumb espn did things this way given how many different schedules various reporters are on. There must be some accounting reason they fired people they are going to keep paying who could still actually be working.

So it is entirely possible she got laid off but worked for espn over the weekend. But it is unlikely it was for free, however probably did not create any additional income.
