lol, ya that was some kind of disconnect

Chauncey is the best NBA studio analyst ever so they've got that going for them, which is nice

Z Lowe has been having David Thorpe on his pod a lot. Not sure there's a more self-involved individual on the planet. He turns every discussion into how he coaches some HS kids or some ****.

his voice is hypnotizing in a nearly effeminate way

Thorpe talks girly too

Chauncey has experience and interest for this game as he does not know it only from studio or tv as a viewer

ESPN cutting costs after winning all the league rights. My general feeling is they can find/train talent more easily than Fox/NBC can turn talent and no live sports into viewers but it'll be an interesting experiment for sure.

Fox doing the PTI 2.0 thing with Cowherd and Whitlock I'll assume will be a massive flop. They keep trying to recreate ESPN instead of doing their own thing. One of the reasons Katie Nolan works, whether you like her or not, is she's different than ESPN schtick.

Didn't Fox steal Kellerman and do a horrible ATH knockoff years ago also?

I Max

I liked that show but I'm a Kellerman fanboi, reminder that Kellerman was the host of ATH at the time

Cowherd and Whitlock is good programming from Fox, I disagree with you. If they're going to have them, that's the way to use them. They're not going to beat ESPN so mimic some and differentiate on other shows.

I guess Skip's version of First Take will be a real test on whether he's a ratings driver or the ESPN machine. But Cowherd's ratings on Fox have been a huge bust so far.

I actually prefer Cowherd to Eisen or Rome who are usually on at the same time (or used to be) but always shut it off when Whitlock is a guest

agreed hes a noob but he has takes and is hella good at radio, i don't listen to any of them the bulk of the time. Whitlock has takes but is bad on radio plus rambles

Eisen is vanilla on radio (not tv) and Rome is on autopilot w/ a crowd-sourced show

the way to take espn down is by going after the popular sports, not by going after espns 'talent'

Vanilla is perfect description of Eisen. Or beige. I like him when he is a guest on Dan Patrick during the season but God his show is boring.

Eisen's show is horrendous, he needs to work the midnight shift to put people to sleep. I don't get the Dan Patrick show either, I find him to be incredibly boring as well. I guess talk radio in general is a wasteland, I only like listening to local shows after the Bills suffer yet another humiliating defeat and the callers act like their dog just got shot and they aren't totally used to it by now.

LeBatard

Max and Marcellus can be good as long as they're not too LA slappyish

Bomani is excellent, his producer is primo also

Kanell ****ed up Russillo which I said would happen when they were mulling replacements, anyone but Kanell I said. Did they listen to Ol Dodger? I warned them but no, no one listens. Apologies, I digress ...

Dan used to be good w/ Rob Dibble and Phil the Showkiller but the Dannettes are all varying degrees of beta. Patrick is good at radio though.

Jay Mohr is a try hard w/ bad takes. Sorry Jay but you're ignorant. Mike and Mike is polished but they're as corporate as it gets.

Kornheiser has geriatric sensibilities but he was great back in the day. His Washington show is like a sad reunion.

You know who's fantastic on radio? I don't think he does it anymore but Kiper was tits.

He and Beano going at it every week I'll always remember. I like Bob Valvano, Jimmy V's brother, but he's really neither here nor there. Just a nice guy who's a little bit interesting but mainly I remember fondly from ESPN radio in the middle of the night. Now I think they run radio sportscenters on repeat.

I still remember Dee Snider joking about how Dibble would get a tat of anything and he said, "hey see that coffee mug over there? light it on fire and tat it on my ass." The randomness and spontaneity was hysterical and lols were had by all. I think Dibble got an Ichiro tattoo when he lost a bet on the show.

Dibble was the perfect mix of athlete and radio personality. He was basically bad ass Stu Gotz. Him and Dan were a better pairing then Dan and Keith. Remember at a construction site chilling in my truck and a random guy pulled up in another truck on lunch and was like, "you listening to Dan and Dibbs? wanna turn it up for me?"

I don't mind Cowherd at all. I disagree with him on a number of issues but he's entertaining radio for the most part. Whitlock is absolutely terrible and should definitely just go back to Kansas City and coach high school football. Easily one of the worst sports media personalities of the last decade.

Thanks for the Chris Sacca BS Report recs. Might not have listened to it otherwise, but it was great. Hadn't heard of the guy before, but could have listened to him for hours.

this was with klosterman? or did he do it twice!? anyway, finally listened to the CK bit and it was super dumb:

'i mean, i gahhta think. if i ran into prince, would he have recognised me as the dude from inside the nba? would he have pulled me aside to talk about the bulls?'

then chuck mentions that surely as a big sports fan prince read online articles about sports, and you can almost picture billy jizzing himself.

he has been on other podcasts if you want to dig them out, e.g. the tim ferriss show. bill may finally be waking up to the idea that super duper successful people with a unique life experience might be more interesting to listen to than his dad or house. what an incredible insight.

It'd be nice if, since House has his own pod and brand even, he ever risked actually disagreeing and challenging bill on anything.
