Checked her new article about females in comedies out because of the comments in this thread.
Had to do a control-f on "Wiig" after I finished reading, because I was sure that I must have missed it. Instead, this bull****:
Quote:
Cameron Diaz, in or out of a bikini, is an incredibly gifted physical comedian. You couldn't just swap in a generic blonde hottie in There's Something About Mary any more than you could swap in a generic bumbling nebbish for Ben Stiller.
Ben Stiller creates his own content. So does Will Ferrell. That's why they get more chances to be in good movies. Paul Rudd, David Koechner, Steve Carrell can all do more than act. Might be why "everybody from Anchorman got cast in other movies except for Christina Applegate." Or sexism, I guess.
Instead of clamoring for Rashida Jones and Natalie Portman to be handed a great buddy comedy, how about you ask them to create one? Kristen Wiig, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler have all created their own (great) content, but there's no mention of any of them in the article. Lambert misses the point so bad. It should have been about giving really talented women more chances to create comedies from their points of view, not giving meh comedic actresses (all pretty damn successful ones) more chances.
