Wanted to tell you that it looks like I am done being involved with Grantland. Can’t say much here for obvious reasons, at least for now—I know you understand. In the short-term—don’t let this bull**** affect you. Just keep doing what you’re doing. It’s a job. We tried to make it feel like it was more than a job these last four years, but right now, it’s still a job and Grantland is still being consumed and judged by the general public (with unusually high standards, too). So keep the quality of your work as high as it’s always been. Work situations are rarely going to be perfect and you can’t allow it to affect what you’re doing. The best way to “respond” right now is to keep putting out a great site. If you didn’t know, April was our best month—we passed 10 million uniques without chasing traffic and without any leading-the-site promotion whatsoever from ESPN.com (just one Mets piece for like 90 minutes, that’s it). We built an audience because of quality and quality only. You guys should feel good about that.

"Front-facing employee" is corporate speak for the people who actually appear on tv or podcasts, write for the website, etc. (as opposed to the other employees like editors, camera guys, executives, basically anyone who works behind the scenes).

So, yeah, Simba is probably still getting paid, but you won't be seeing/ reading him on ESPN any more.

I'd imagine they came to an agreement where Simmons can do whatever he wants (namely developing whatever is next for him) until his contract expires in exchange for not bringing an action for constructive termination.

How long before the inevitable tell-all book where Simmons just blasts everyone in sight?

probably never, as there's going to be a non-disparagement clause in place 95% of the time here.

I think we all pretty much know the broad strokes picture of what happened anyways. The NFL is ESPN's most important business partner and Simmon's won't stop taking shots at Goodell. Maybe the shots are justified, maybe they aren't, doesn't really matter.

The End.

Yep. There will be a few more leaks, and Bill will do some twitter trolling and crack a few jokes whenever he gets a new pod/column/tv, but he probably can't go nuclear.

(Also probably had to sign something saying he wouldn't try to poach current Grantland staff)

Barnwell posted this on twitter yesterday:

Barnwell would have made a fine squire in Game of Thrones

I really like Grantland - I can count on it to put up ~ 5-10 really good articles per week, hopefully the site doesn't implode and all the writers scatter across the internet like a runover anthill

Figured there would be some statements like that from grantland staffers. we'll probably see more coming out soon once the dust settles.

So, anyone know what happened to the Men In Blazers? I used to really enjoy their Pod on Grantland, although the only soccer I watch is Champions League and international stuff.

I know they went to one of the other networks, but I don't have the slightest clue where they went and what they are doing. Hopefully they are doing well.

Lotta other Grantland folks co-signed that Barnwell thing. Sounds like he was a legit great boss.

From awhile back, but I don't think the show will be anywhere near as good without svp. If russillo left and svp remained I would say the same thing. The two work well together and compliment each other extremely well. I think Russillo provides better content but I am not sure that he can carry a show (i mean it will probably be satisfactory for radio standards but nothing great). When one of them is out for a day the show takes a huge hit imo.

This is one of the only shows that I consistenly listen to and download the podcast so I am disappointed that it is coming to an end.
