i've only listened to them a few times but barnwell seems like an insufferable nit who shouldn't be allowed to speak in a public forum and mays a reasonably normal person

If it wasn't for WOAT college football takes & Aaron Rodgers trolling I would like Cowherd. He actually does a lot of anti-hot take rants; plus he has the only watchable football pregame show.

For me it's the tone of voice. That show is the 9th grade physics substitute teacher video of ESPN. It's replaced the croc hunter and NOVA

My local ESPN affiliate doesn't carry him, or else he'd be the exception.

Lebatard used to be really good. He's still far better than most. He's always been a contrarian, but he's getting borderline absurd and predictable. His show is basically a third race pandering, a third being contrarian even if the populous position is more likely correct, and a third decent content. He paints himself into corners that are illogical at a much greater frequency than be used to.

All I ever really listen to anymore is SiriusXM. And I find that enjoyable enough most of the time that I don't want to crash into a tree while driving.

the fact that he does makes him all the more annoying since he's basically the most flagrant hottaker

Dud, Lebetard's show has a podcast for each hour.

The promo they always played the year I listened live was "Texas plays in a better conference and gets better players so shut up TCU".
Oops. It'd be funny if they played that clip now.

Every time Simmons uses the word "we" in reference to the Patriots I get tilted

Jesus christ, the last BS report was terrible. First the whole "all these british actors be stealin arrr jerbs" and "yeah but WE MUST SETTLE THE DEBATE over Wire vs Sopranos vs Breaking Bad WITHOUT TOP FIVE LISTS THE UNIVERSE WILL COLLAPSE" handwringing, then the jacko part where he's like "WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT MY THEORY?!?!? Belichik OBVIOUSLY didn't call the timeout because he KNEW it would pressure pete into making a bad playcall, GOAT GENIUS AMIRITE".

Can't believe you listened to a BS report after the Pats winning the Super Bowl. Jesus I can't even imagine.

yeah i was gonna ask for someone's review of Billy Boy's post-SB column because i was pretty sure that reading it myself would only cause me to break a lot of stuff, etc

that pod sounds fairly infuriating, i prob shouldn't hate-listen to it

This sounds like the most Simmons'y thing ever http://awfulannouncing.com/2015/espn...ew-series.html

We approached this like a sports show — we didn’t want to just break down the major categories. That felt lazy to us. We’d much rather argue about whether Bradley Cooper has stolen Leo DiCaprio’s corner as Hollywood’s most bankable actor

When I caught their segment with Kevin Costner. Ugh.

Also had a bad experience coming back from On Demand to the channel I was watching before, which now was showing something I think was Chris Russo yelling at the top of his lungs about how no baseball fan considers Barry Bonds the home run king and was flabbergasted that's still a hot take people are h'taking.

i watched the first couple minutes of the oscar thing. Wesley Morris is smart and I like him talking about movies.

Then BILL SIMMONS jumps in and you'll never guess what he does. "Guys, who are your top 5 heat-check actors this year". He literally starts making some pained analogy about jamal crawford tossing up 'heat check' threes and some supporting actor in an 80s movie being a 'heat check' actor... it was unbearable. I actually stopped the video and couldn't finish, and I really like Wesley Morris.

goddammit bill, you're not as clever as you think you are.

I'm thinking there should be a show out there with someone who is to Bill Simmons what Stephen Colbert was to Bill O'Reilly. That might even be my pitch to take TDS in a different direction post-Stewart.

Yeah, I cringed so many times listening to Simmons during the Oscars special. He was forcing not-funny sports analogies at every turn. He needs to either commit to doing non-sports Grantland stuff and start actually becoming knowledgeable, or stop doing them all together. This culture/media coverage with forced sports undertones is weird and does not work at all.

I don't really enjoy Wesley Morris either, though. The dude is pretentious as ****. Trying to come up with some higher level reading of 40 Year Old Virgin is as lol as it gets.

Was it as bad as some dorky white guy trying to fit everything in life to a poker analogy?
