Sal can't be rolling that deep, and I doubt that Billy Boy really wants to go blowing his whole check on gambling. It's good for columns, but I imagine that's what most of it is. Similarly, I doubt Berman is betting a ton of money on football even though he talks about it all the time.
Not a bad guess, I'd take the over though. I think it's out there that Simmons gets $3M/yr from ESPN, yes?

So if he bets 1-2K per week, that's the same as someone who makes $300K betting 100-200 per week, or someone who makes 100K betting 30-70 bucks a week total. I would say something like 4-5X that feels closer.

Chill,

I didn't want to tackle that. I don't think that's a totally fair assessment. One can lift a few lines while still having an overall intelligent and original take.

But you aren't wrong, either. I thought the finale largely just did away with a lot of the philosophical underpinnings of the show and in the end they all seemed kinda pointless. Hence just an attempt to "make the show seem smarter."

I don't think that's 100% fair either, hence my ambivalence towards TD.

I found it kind of odd that anyone found the warmed over sophomore philosophy compelling in the first place.

I just watched Koppelman & Levien's Jimmy Connors 30 for 30, which was absolutely excellent.

My only gripe was the use of Scott Ferrall.

Why the **** would you use that fraudulent imitation Ferrall when you have the original himself, the legend, the Mad Dog Chris Russo. If you wanted a guy to make your exclamation points, get the Mad Dog fired up. Everyone loves a fired up Russo. Everyone.

He's a huge tennis guy who was the on-air voice of NYC sports in when the Connors run was actually happening. Meanwhile, Ferrall was probably working overnights in Raleigh.

I can't believe they couldn't get old Mike & the Mad Dog footage. (Actually, I can. Francesa is that big of a douche.) The city was electric during that run and, in 1991, the Mad Dog firmly took the Hype Man Crown away from Flavor Flav.

Failing to get good stuff out of the Dog and making me look at Ferrall's face were my only quibbles with an otherwise excellent documentary.

This. Standard NFL practice to not care even a little about its players. Most fans don't care either. If somebody gets hurt there are 100k more guys to take his place.

In that Instagram photo BS referred to in their latest podcast, JackO looks completely different from what I expected. I imagined him with patrician features. Simmons looks like a 14-year old girl. http://instagram.com/sptguy33

Simmons once went to Vegas and played blackjack with his college buddies until 10:30pm, so he's a pretty wild dude.

And +1 to the moment being the best grantland podcast. Nice when the host gets out of the way and lets the guest speak in full

I loved the end of the latest HP, where chris ryan is all super serious about how bad the sony hack is and how it's a CRIME to expose personal information about people he's never heard of but at the same time how he's SUPER HAPPY that someone exposed the personal information of people he HAS heard of. Great stuff.

agreed, really too bad as I was looking forward to it.

I suspect that Larry David needs a little craziness on the other side of the table to flush him out. Simmons just not at all on that wavelength.
