Agreed. Just a fun rumor they both play into. If I was forced to guess, I'd pin that account on one of the former Firejoemorgan guys.

I'm sure most people here know about it already, but Joe Posnanski's podcast is probably my favorite sports-related podcast. It didn't start off this way, but it's now basically Posnanski (who I think is a great writer) and Michael Schur (who I have an enormous mancrush on) talking about sports and then ending with a draft of some sort. (Most recent draft: fruits) It's largely Schur who brings the talent to this podcast, but the two play off each other fantastically.

I just wish it was less sporadic.

**** Joe Posnanski and **** Michael Shur for not disassociating with his JoePa slurping ass.

(I did find their draft podcasts amusing, but Pos's response to the PSU stuff is just ****ing inexcusable).

a) Joe Posnanski's apologism for Joe Paterno is [fill in adjective]
b) **** him
c) **** anyone who associates with him

I'm not really with you on the progression from a) to c). To me, it seems like Posnanski is an overall thoughtful writer and seemingly decent person whose direct exposure to Paterno and natural tendencies toward sympathy produced a problematic blind spot which he's made regrettable attempts to defend. I don't mean to overstate your throwaway post, but I'm disturbed by the idea that he should be excommunicated for this.

For me the bolded makes it so much worse. He is a very smart, thoughtful guy, and that he could allow himself to be blinded to something so obvious (it's been a while, but IIRC the stuff he said as the scandal broke is just a complete deal breaker on journalistic credibility to me. When your blind spot involved child rape, that's a problem for me.

Schur was pretty vocal (IIRC) on the JoePa stuff, and it just bugged me that his homey was out there showing his ass and he never said ****.

That said- I'm not really calling for any action beyond saying "**** him" and you're right that it's mostly a throwaway post.

I know I am probably late to the party, but everytime I hear Simmons talk about the Patriots I dislike them more and more. I never had a problem with them until I started listening to the BS Report. Kind of hope the Patriots get rolled this weekend, highly unlikely, but that is what I am rooting for.

What I don't understand is why I continue listening to Simmons' podcasts - they drive me nuts every time: His ridiculous discovery of legit wins versus either/or wins (where I guess he's stumbled across the notion of pythagorean wins); the incredulity that a Vegas line is 0.5 points off what he expected ("3 points I could understand, but 3.5 is just a complete lack of respect"); the after-the-fact rationalization of gambling losses. It drives me absolutely nuts and yet I continue to listen. Oooh, I 'll call it the Triple S - Stockholm Simmons Syndrome. Best syndrome since toxic shock.

That's very close to how I feel. I do still like JackO, more JackO needed.

yeah i listened to his podcast with sal (which i enjoy) and just read his column and i want the packers to win by 30+ just so simmons shuts the **** up about the pats getting disrespected because the spread is .5 or 1 point off what he thinks it should be

he is going to be absolutely insufferable if the pats win

the idea behind the disrespect thing is that 3.5 implies packers>pats on a neutral field, and i can see how a pats homer would be supernova levels of mad about that given their recent games

it seems that dear bill does not fully appreciate the fact that godgers goat

I think it's more that Simmons is associating any sort of emotion with the lines Vegas puts out. He has gambled enough and knows enough smart people at this point that he knows why the lines are the way they are, but is pandering to his dumb audience.

It's a reaction he would have had 10 years ago, and is actually probably still his gut response, but he's not stupid.

I agree with Chris... Simmons is great with the written word, but it's never translated for me. I find his speaking style limp and kind of whiny and I wouldn't trust him as a source on the topics I know enough to make those judgements on. I'm not an NBA guy, so maybe that's a different story, but his WSOP article was certainly the last straw on my treating him as anything but entertainment value. When his talking isn't entertaining (to me), that leaves me no incentive to listen.
