Pretty awesome seeing Simmons humblebragging/redboarding the fact that he and Cousin sal got Memphis 4-1 at 20/1 odds

then seeing all this

Memphis: 21 fouls. San Antonio: 9 fouls. I'm just saying. about 1 hour ago via web

Wow. Does Bob Delaney know about You Tube? We can put this pro-SA calls online in a sequence, Bob. I'd ease up a little, buddy. about 1 hour ago via web

Wow. That might be the worst defense ever up 3 with less than 2 seconds to go. They should have put a ball rack next to Gary Neal. about 1 hour ago via ÜberSocial

Oh man, as if that magazine wasn't dumb enough already. Judging by his gambling work, we're going to be reaching sub SI for Kids levels once he takes over

Cousin Sal after asking his followers whether to hedge the 20/1 wager: "About 80% say hedge. 20% say let it ride. 100% called us vicious names. Letting it ride!!"

i figure all he has to do to make it better is just add a column where he talks about gambling. i would only read it to laugh at how stupid he is, but having something worth reading for any reason would be a significant improvement to the magazine.

didn't really like that column, but the stuff from grantland seemed pretty interesting (mostly b/c he didn't write it)

Yeah, I mean, I'm a sucker for anything "Wire"-related but I can't help but think he could have done a better job; many of his quotes are barely relevant to what he ends up talking about with them

I noticed both of the preview columns were by women. Waiting for the Sports Intern scandals to be followed by talk about the ex-Sports Wife

I'm amazed ESPN even let him write this, the language seems far too crude for their ABC Disney standards.

latest podcast was funny to listen to with simmons rambling on about lebron not having any form of a post game and not working on a post game.

At least take 5 seconds to google lebron james post game, or do some research. ESPN less than a month ago talked about and linked to a great article on lebron james improving/evolving post game.

http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/mia...as-a-post-game

This was the main article though, complete of cutup youtube vids of plays broken down

great article. the point about his postgame being undefined and thus ignored was really well put. still, you gotta qualify anything simmons says with it's relevance to CRUNCH TIME, i think it's reasonable to point out that lebron could postup more in more key situations since he's obviously pretty effective already

I liked when he compared his wardrobe to starting pitchers, that was pretty funny, but I'm starting to realize that's kinda the way he sees his whole life and he's less and less clever each time

Wow. Very artfully composed destruction of Bill Simmons and Grantland:

http://www.mrdestructo.com/2011/05/b...grantland.html

A bit harsh, but my is it funny.

Also included, sniping at Dave Eggers:

Quote:
In related news, Dave Eggers will also write for the site, just in case you were worried that you didn't know what Dave Eggers was worried about Dave Eggers doing next. But the worry is probably ironic — or not: perhaps his biggest worry is the uncertainty that his worry is genuine, and not a self-reflexive worry about how one behaves... like, it's actually a primal worry whose power is being overwhelmed by the social-procedural worry we adopt as a normative function of making ourselves vulnerably accessible to others. If there's a way to highlight the preceding sentence and increase the font size on your iPad, do so, then get up to get a refill at whatever Barnes & Noble café you're in. You are now special, and other people can see that.

One contributor Simmons has brought on who would surely **** on Reilly while wondering if Reilly's ability to be **** on is what unexpectedly actually secretly makes him really really great is Chuck Klosterman

Allegedly it's a serious sports website maintained by a man whose critical rigorousness about sports can often be measured by going to the IMDB "memorable quotes" page for a movie and trying to apply it to some random category like "interceptions made by New England Patriots, 2001-2010."

If at any moment either entity had walked away from their relationship, it would have given the lie to ESPN's claims to print things more subversive than "SportsCenter You Can Read" and Simmons' claims that he had any ideas to be held back in the first place
Brilliant.

takedowns like that are sad because it's clear that the writer himself is incredibly well-steeped in something he doesn't like. why would anyone pay this much attention to bill simmons? the joy of a culture where a guy like simmons thrives is that there's something for everyone.

(for the record, i don't like simmons and only read him when something lol happens in boston sports, but i have a post ITT so i tend to click on it when it gets bumped)
