I actually liked the article and didn't really have any major qualms with it. He showed a bit of restraint from his normal schtick.

I think I fit that definition pretty exactly and might know those names, but couldn't tell you who won what off the top of my head. The only reason I'll ever remember who Charl is (assuming he doesn't go on to become somebody) is because of his terrible, terrible name.

I couldn't name but maybe 1-2 last 10 major winners, but I recognize every one of the names after seeing them. I assume unless you're an avid golf fan/watcher, you're in the same category (unless you don't watch golf at all).

Simmons and his readers wanna read/talk about Tiger, simple as that. Schwartzel definitely deserves A LITTLE more credit, but he deserves it across the board, not just with Simmons.

As far as I know, it's not like Simmons is claiming to be some golf expert. I doubt he watched much of R1 and R2 -- hearing that he wrote a column that barely mentioned the tournament outside of Tiger is no surprise to me.

Well I remember who won the last few Masters and PGAs, but I don't know I still think all those names are famous for having won a major recently regardless of whether or not you can remember exactly which one it was. I dunno, my point is that I don't really like the whole view the sportswriters are getting of golf, which is that if guys like Tiger or Phil don't win, that the names may as well be drawn out of a hat. I love reading about Tiger as much as everyone but I don't like how the "he had a share of the lead once" overshadowed who actually won the thing

Yeh I'm really hoping that he goes on another uncensored podcast (like Carolla's) so he can tell the story about banging his best friend's wife in the ass while his friend was mowing the lawn.

Ive heard him tell that story before, not sure where though. Probably the Stern show or Carolla's old radio gig before the podcasts.

Norm confirmed awesome. Great episode on a podcast that is normally very weak during the football offseason.

just started it, but could probably be better if Norm didn't sound like he woke up 5 seconds prior to starting. wtf, get him a cup of coffee, or 4Loko, or something. i know not giving a **** is part of his schtick, but c'mon.

By this point it feels like Norm is burnt out from doing Sports Show media, especially because Simmons is clearly trying to get them to redo conversations they had irl and Norm isn't the type of person who wants to do that. I also suspect the podcast got pitched to Norm as "just a conversation like this" so he didn't decide to perform at all.

I'd listen to a podcast of Norm watching CSPAN

Norm was hilarious, best Simmons podcast in months. He loosens up as it goes on.

Great how he pointed out Sam Kinison's originality and ignored Bill Hicks.

I love people bitching b/c I was trying to pass along info I had. Twitter is seriously starting to get annoying. Why do I even bother?

I like Simmons but good grief he bitches a ton for a guy who makes six-to-seven figures for 3 podcasts and a column a week.

edit: And a new website!

To some extent his whole brand is being an everyman. Acting like an idiot twitter is just part of that! (no, I don't believe he's nearly that self aware or cunning).

That said- looking at his timeline, there's nothing there that would seem to generate any legitimate complaints- so the people to whom he was responding probably were tards.

Norm's soccer gambling line was hilarious. "If you get down 1-0 20 minutes in, your chances of tying, let alone winning, are pretty slim. I mean you only got 70 minutes left."

Comparing OJ to Robert Blake was also gold.

Some Millman gold in today's podcasts:

"Wise guys think that Boston is less likely to win the East this year because they think the East is better than it was last year." Groundbreaking stuff here.

Also Simmons said he got 12-1 on a Bulls/Thunder Finals bet preseason which, if true, would be so horrible considering the Bulls were 22-1 to win the title. Millman loved the Bulls/Thunder bet though so what do I know.
