that was an awkward 30 seconds but didnt even cause me to look up from my computer at the time. not any worse than jon gruden constantly assigning superlatives to every random player. "let me tell you, you will never find anyone who loves playing football more than jacquizz rodgers." or phil simms general nonsense

I wonder when ESPN is going to realize that the Streisand Effect is a very real thing. I forgot that Jemele Hill existed much less that she had anything to say about Donald Trump... until ESPN execs Goddell'd the whole thing up.

So wait there was a massive purge of ESPN and Jemele Hill was one of the survivors? Jesus.

That's definitely the takeaway from this entire conversation.

So this guy is basically the male version of Hillary.

- begins every sentence with "As a minority"
- makes you cringe every time you hear him speak
- references 9/11 as much as possible

I'll take 5-1 odds on him winning the D nom in the next 25 years.

Imagine a fringe sportscenter guy like a Neil Everett, going on a tweet rampage in 2015 about how Barack Obama is a black supremacist. He's fired within the hour.

I disagree with what Jemele Hill said, but I don't think she should be suspended or fired for having an opinion. I wish she didn't delete the tweet.

This is a little trick people have learned to shield whatever they are about to say from any possible criticism. It's a subtle way of implying that if you disagree with or in any way critique their opinions it's because you hate their identity

"As a mother..."
"As a woman..."
"As a gay man..."

etc.

She didn't. They're all still there.

This guy must really have something against Neil Everett to post this exact same thing in two different forums.

I haven't watched anything nonlive on ESPN in like 8 years anyway.

Their response to this actually surprised me (given they wrongly and LOLy pulled an Asian dude named Robert Lee from announcing a Virginia game and they're now Disney owned. Sincerely very disappointed/enraged with them.

Man

This analogy is historically bad even by bad internet analogy standards.

Scorching. Meanwhile, here in the real world, a famous white person can call Obama a racist and his punishment is...

Spoiler:

...getting elected president!

Surely you can see the difference. ESPN suspended Linda Cohn for having an opinion that could be considered right leaning. Hill had an opinion considered left leaning. Trump unfortunately before he became president had nobody to answer to. When you are rich and own your own company, there isn't anyone to fire you.

Surely you can see the difference? Hill criticized Donald Trump. Cohn criticized her employer!

...but moreover, Trump's election clearly shows how manufactured this outrage over Hill's comments are. None of those who are complaining (~all of whom voted for the guy who called Obama racist) actually give a **** about calling the president a racist, they're just mad someone's saying it about the white guy, not the black guy.

Ok, Schilling. I don't think anybody should be fire, or suspended for voicing their views away from work. I actually like Hill, I think she is being misused on that terrible show, but aside from that. There is certainly a hypocrisy at ESPN, and it's hard not to acknowledge that. But who cares, it's their company, they can run it however they want.
