I pay for netflix and probably buy $500 worth of music on itunes annually. Both are worth it. Lots of people are bitching about the netflix price hikes but mine went from 19.99 a month to 23.99 a month. Not enough to make me even consider canceling it.

iTunes is obscenely expensive. I have a rhapsody subscription, use youtube or pandora or something for all my music. Don't have any pirated music on my computer. It helps that the only time I ever listen to music is at my computer, unlike pretty much everyone else.

I buy albums off amazon, not iTunes, though I haven't done that in a while.

Netflix instant is awesome.

People don't pay money to watch things on the internet because no one wants to watch tv/movies/sports with a laptop on the couch or crowd a group of people around a 24" monitor. Netflix streaming took off with all of the ways to watch on your normal tv. The NHL has a playstation app that I used a lot last season to watch games. People will pay for video content on the internet as it becomes easier to watch on the living room tv.

Anyone who is marginally tech savvy and okay infringing on IP can fairly easily get damn near any TV show or movie from the internet to their actual television for free.

Klosterman's new Breaking Bad column is pretty much the only thing of his that I read and didn't regret. Pretty good, imo.

the Yao article is great.

Quote:
Jonathan Feigen, the Rockets beat writer for the Houston Chronicle, once asked Yao the topics of a team meeting early in his NBA career. Yao, Feigen said, leaned toward him and whispered (in English), "I don't know. I don't understand English."2
lol

There has been far too much Molly Lambert hate in relation to Andy Greenwald hate. Greenwald is just as useless and bad at writing.

Also lol @ Grantland having a "best of" column where they include like 75% of the columns they published in a week.

Edit: Just did the math 14/40 columns

How can anybody care what Whitlock says. He's the worst combination of trolling and stupid. Mostly he doesn't mean what he says, but then sometimes it's even worse, 'cause he does.

I've been talking with Bill Barnwell on twitter tonight about the poker coverage. I asked him if Grantland was interested in writing about poker players/Black Friday. He said they're already working on it.

Kinda sweet.
