FWIW, Mark Jackson was allegedly a pain in the ass when he was the Warriors head coach. I'm guessing ESPN saw the perfect opportunity to dump him and pick up Doc who has done broadcasting before (no idea if he was any good back in 2004.) Wouldn't surprise me if MJ was not the best guy to deal with for ESPN.

I found this leaked footage of Mark Jackson leaving ESPN headquarters earlier today:

The only thing I could come up with was that Donna Burke didn't want to work with Mark Jackson or that ESPN decided to do the NBA a favor by replacing two guys who frequently criticized players and the league. I have no idea how Rivers is going to handle that but I would assume that Burke is going to be much more player/league friendly than van Gundy and Jackson.

FWIW, my main issue here isn't that they replaced Jackson. I never liked him anyway. But paying him millions for two years of not working for them while doing budget cuts everywhere will probably cost a decent number of lower level workers their jobs.
It's clear to me Doc is miles ahead of Mark Jackson in communicating. Doc does very well with the media and I'm pretty sure ESPN took note of that. Jackson's delivery is sloppy, he doesn't know when to speak and when to let the other guy finish, and his volume is absurdly low.

The other stuff about Doc knowing 1000x over Jackson is probably irrelevant.

There is some financial information about ESPN available that we apparently haven't seen before.

This link is only a basic mainstream article. I'd be interested if someone found a serious analysis in the coming days.

Walt Disney has disclosed ESPN’s financial figures separately for the first time. The sports broadcaster is still a significant profit engine for its parent company, but falling revenue and a relatively low operating margin show its challenges.

The espn website has been garbage for years, but I do find it amusing that literally 90% of the thumbnails on the page are now either McAfee in a tank top or a Stephen A yelling face with no visual indicator what they’d even talking about
