no. she is just dumb and they are going way over and beyond to save money on the wedding by inviting less people, but rather than cut down on invites they are just not letting anyone bring dates.

we've been trying for 6 months, including saying that we were going to bring dates anyways and if they want to turn us away at the door then thats their choice. You got a plus 1 if you lived with your SO (which lets the married guy bring his wife and one or two of her friends bring their boyfriends). but really she is just a major bitch. She also hates kids and is forcing family members to leave younger kids at home with a babysitter.

Allegedly we are not "allowed" to go out on Friday night before the wedding, but everyone knows thats not happening and I will definitely have a flask in my jacket come ceremony time. At one point in time it was going to be a dry wedding bc, as the bride stated to the groom, "I'm not paying for all your friends to get hammered drunk when almost no one on my side drinks." Over time this got converted to there being wine, beer, and sangria from what I last heard.


but yea, we all pretty much have the same feeling as people itt have stated and all of our girlfriends or other female friends think that all her actions are ridiculous and agree with the bitchiness so I dont think its just us overreacting to things. I'm a little annoyed I cant bring my girlfriend, but its not the end of the world. She hasn't met either of them so it would be similar to a random date from their perspective.

I really do want suggestions for a gift though. Some of us were going to go in together for a watch until we found out that the bride is getting him a watch.

I don't think it's unreasonable at all to keep young children/babies out of your wedding if you want. No dates is lol as hell though.

Buy him a watch he'd like more than what the bride gets him.

FWIW, I attended a wedding once where this was done and it totally worked. The couple are very outdoorsy types and the wedding was held in a clearing in the middle of a group of redwoods. The groom had a very well-behaved pair of German Shepherds that filled both roles.

Aside from "a new wife" (and btw having recently gone through this, the guest list is hella stressful, with +1s being an especially sticky topic. Obviously this one is going overboard, but wedding prep makes them all a little crazy) gift ideas should include booze stuff. Maybe a really nice bottle of scotch and some whiskey stones?. I got those as part of the gift for my groomsmen and they all love them. You can even make a clever joke about replacing his stones...

Eta: dogs as ring bearer can totally work (my dad and stepmom did this and it was pretty good), and no kids is completely legit as they are a PITA to account for in the planning.

I guess if you have a huge family with multiple couples with children then yeah it might be unreasonable. I've just been to multiple weddings where the youngest people at the ceremony/reception were like 14-15 and it was just so much better in terms of noise and being able to freely converse with everyone because nobody was hovering around their children all night.

i think its more if youre trying to be something youre not. like, if youre a simpleton and then you try to have some faux high class wedding and forbid kids and try to make everything appear prim and proper. wont look right.

Meh, it's my party and I can invite (or not) whoever the **** I want to. In seriousness though, the "+1 decision" can add dozens of people to the guest list - its not just your gf who is/isn't getting invited. That's not to say that not allowing GROOMSMEN to bring dates (within reason, there was a non-zero chance my one unmarried groomsman would have brought an escort) isn't hugely lol.

there is sangria for sure and I think beer and wine but not 100% on the latter. At one point it was dry and our buddy told us it was bc of $. We got a quote from him for the price of the booze and it was like $10-12/head and the seven groomsmen offered to cover the cost fully which is when we heard the thing about not having alcohol for his friends to get drunk when most of hers dont drink.

How do u have a wedding without children present? I mean, how do u invite people and tell them to not bring their kids?

I find it hard having a select group of friends over for a UFC night without at least one of them suggesting on bringing their kids.
