Herschel Walker trade still kills the Ricky trade. That Walker trade is so ****ing stupidly insane.

Edit: Walker trade includes 3 first rounders, 3 2nd rounders, a 3rd and a 6th. While giving away two 3rds, a 5th, and a 10th.

Oh and the Cowboys got 5 players.

Well the Walker trade more or less paved the way for the Cowboys mini-dynasty of the 90s, didn't it? Evidently the Vikings weren't yet familiar with the average career arc of an NFL RB, but they figured it out eventually.

Rickys hobbies at Texas were mainly sitting in his room and smoking weed and working out.

Cowboys traded Walker to the Minnesota Vikings for a total of five players (LB Jesse Solomon, DB Issiac Holt, RB Darrin Nelson, LB David Howard, DE Alex Stewart) and six draft picks (which led to Emmitt Smith, Russell Maryland, Kevin Smith, and Darren Woodson).

meh

while I think it's anecdotally interesting to know who was picked with traded draft picks, it's not really helpful in terms of evaluating the lopsidedness of trades. That a second round pick became Darren Woodson doesn't mean it's any more than a second round pick. That said, lolVikings.

Well Russell Maryland was the 1st overall pick in '91. Emmitt and Kevin Smith were both picked 17th overall.

Walker's numbers post Dallas:

1152 attempts, 4837 yards, 4.2 y/a, 301 receptions, 2541 yards, 8.4 y/r, and 51 total td's.

some of them took New Years Resolution's seriously

Others are still holding onto youth and haven't blossomed in full Midwest glory

Regardless, the ones that do look good show it off today

i mean, at the time of the trade walker was having a pretty god damn impressive nfl career. i mean the trade was certainly awful, but still.

ditka bet the farm on a guy who had never played an nfl game, and the redskins got one of the greatest corners of all time and a guy who while healthy was one of the most dominant linebackers in football. if the redskins weren't as horribly run a franchise as they were, bailey and arrington are cornerstone pieces of a dynasty team. if the redskins even made it to 1 super bowl with them on the team, let alone actually won 1, this trade is probably regarded as worse

Ricky still had 10,000 rushing yards in the NFL which is amazing considering he got booted from the league for awhile.

Best part was Hershels claimed diet and training:
Walker says he sleeps five hours a night and eats only one meal a day (skipping breakfast and lunch). He is a vegetarian and his diet is made up mostly of soup, bread and salad. Walker has never tasted beer or liquor and never took aspirin or other type of medication. Instead of lifting weights, he has a daily regimen of 3,500 sit-ups, 1,500 push-ups and eight mile runs.

There are some good ones in baseball, like Bartolo Colon and Tim Drew for Grady Sizemore, Cliff Lee, Brandon Phillips, and Lee Stevens, but nothing can compare to the Ricky Williams fiasco.

Nolan Ryan thought about retiring in 1970 before the Mets traded him to California for Jim Fregosi.

Yeah that is possibly the gold standard in the NBA, or at least top three. It's the first one I think of anyway.

Although it won't register on many radars, the Suns trading Dennis Johnson AND a first round pick away to the Celtics for Rick Robey is pretty incredible. It's not like DJ was a rookie or past his prime, he already won a finals MVP and was in the middle of a HOF career. Such a massive WTF. It's possible the Celtics don't win either of their mid 80s titles without that heist.

I liked it. It showed the League and CLE fans that they were serious at a playoff or title run. I always applaud any team trying to win.

It is that what makes organizations like the NYY so great

This was like bad at the time, and then both 'Tek and Lowe ended being somewhat better than expected (arguably with 'Tek I guess, but IIRC when we shipped him he was kinda looking busty) and Slocumb was terrible.

There are a lot of Bill Bavasi moves that should come up in these kinds of topics. I think by the end the Indians were just ****ing with him to see how much they could get away with.
