Because it was a cycle(like Loretta said). Buy alcohol. Throw party. Make money. Buy more alcohol.

a friend of mine did that move a few times but he was such a colossal burnout he'd smoke three quarters of the ounce himself and get in debt

is charging for parties common at most places? i know VT and UVA often did, but at JMU it was taboo to charge for a party unless it was something really special (like serving all nice liquor or something) and even then it was looked down upon

Man, I've visited my fair share of campuses in my life and every single one charged 5 dollars a cup. The jello-shot thing was always done specially and would be like a dollar per or a dollar for 2. But I've actually never been somewhere that 5 dollars a cup wasn't standard.

Michigan house parties never charged for cups but I know Michigan State and most schools in the Midwest do

AcTiOnJaCsOn claims that his house makes thousands of dollars at every party they throw, so they definitely do at Minnesota as well

i can never remember going to a party that charged for a cup in the entirety of college... and i did my fair share of fatass partying. it was just accepted that if you wanted to host a party, you covered the cost. some friends or something might kick in donations, but that wasn't always expected.

5 dollars a cup at literally every single keg party ive been to. Ive also never seen anyone selling jello shots or any other kind of booze for that matter. If a party had jello shots it was usually b/c girls who lived at the house were bored earlier that day and decided to make jello shots which were then just given away at the party

who in their right mind would just provide free booze to dozens and dozens of random people, in addition to the potential legal ramifications of hosting a (probably mostly) underage drinking party?

most of the undergrad population at JMU

it's starting to get hairy there. it used to be a wonderland for a while, but then a group of kids pushed it too far, hosted a block party that was too big and invited lots of outside undesirables. now it's crack down time lots of places, prob rightfully so

my college was small enough and nerdy that tons of random people showing up generally wasn't an issue, so no one ever charged for anything

I mean $5 for all you can drink keg beer is a pretty sweet deal, and if you're hosting the party it pays for the booze so it seemed like a win/win for everyone and I figured it was incredibly standard. I guess not. (oh and of course girls dont have to pay ever ldo)

When I was in school( 94-98) 3 bucks per cup was standard at UW. We did 4 but only charged dudes. Made money too. (and made garbage cans full of Spodee with Everclear and Vodka. )
