They do it because it's easy money. How can you expect regular jurors to parse through competing expert testimony filled with industry jargon and complex theory to make their case? I was in a jury waiting room and one guy couldn't figure out how to turn off the alarm on his phone.

I was on a jury this year.

I could've single handily swayed everyone to guilty or innocent. After the trial, dude is obviously guilty using any kind of common sense, only one person halfheartedly agrees he's definitely guilty. I make my case to a bunch of idiotic skepticism.

We deliberate less than an hour and go home bc trial wrapped up late and we have the option to just start fresh the next day, or go through the night. I'm also the one that says **** this, let's go home bc these people are morons and let's just make a day of it tomorrow.

Come back in next day: one by one they repeat what I told them acting like they came up with it. I was there feeding my dog this morning and I thought, ya know, [insert one of the 8 points I made].

I was relatively quiet outside of organizing it to get it going. (Just agreement with them but would catch myself from talking.) The guy who volunteered to be our foreman was the worst night one: But what if ... he didn't do it?!? type stuff w/ no other layers.

He comes in and lays out what I said also.

I'm not surprised but it was a bit unnerving. Jury of your peers my ass. The boomer white women implying that this Samoan 12 year old had a molestation coming to her because "she's a pretty big girl" was just awesome and makes you love your common man so much.

I only got so far as the 36 people who the prosecutor/defense attorney question before selecting the 12 they like. It was pretty incredible hearing the stories of everyone in there though. 5 people had their car stolen out of their driveway before! Multiple people held at knife/gunpoint outside a club. One guy was shot while fighting off home burglars before wrestling the gun and shooting them back. One guy went to court falsely accused of domestic violence after a bad divorce (prosecutor did not select him).

I'm thinking "well one time my car was slightly hit in the parking lot and I had to file a police report for insurance"

it was caused by endless war and single ppl amassing too much power due to wealth disparity. few rich ppl owned all the land and used slaves to cultivate it so the poor ppl had no way of earning wealth. then Marius was like, well we got all these young poor ppl, may as well use them to win wars and now the political leaders were able to have entire armies loyal only to them.
