The McDonalds app is redefining the fast food game. $1 any sandwich, free fries, being able to stack the 2 for $5 deal and having the $3 off $10 stack based on their regular price, it’s like they’ve turned back the clock to 1990 on pricing.
Just got back from 2 weeks in Japan (Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka) and couldn't agree more. Thought it would be a once in a lifetime trip but definitely plan on going back now
Spend a bit of time studying the metro/train systems - they're pretty well integrated and can get you anywhere you want to go. There are generic cards (pasmo, suica) that can be used for metro fares (along with random **** like vending machines) that make the process really simple.
Eat everything - even low-end places have fabulous food, and the street markets are phenomenal. We also drunkenly ate more convenience store food than I care to admit. Go to random alley bars. Visit more than just Tokyo - our best times were in Kyoto and Osaka. Make sure you convert a lot of cash ahead of time or have fee-free international withdrawals - most restaurants and sights were cash only.
We did 2 weeks total. Originally planned to be Tokyo - Kyoto - Osaka - Kobe - Tokyo, but we skipped Kobe for another day in Osaka because the nightlife was that much fun.
Edit: only regret is not climbing Fuji due to weather and lack of planning ahead. If it's something that interests you, plan ahead and bring proper hiking stuff and carve a day (or evening) out of your trip to do it.
